Editorial Reviews

Review

The Official Autism 101 Manual is an important and dynamic resource.

Topics range from diagnosis to family support and traditional therapies. Some topics, such as building self-esteem of persons with ASD and understanding areas of strength, have too rarely been addressed in a field that has been preoccupied with a 'deficit-checklist' model for so many years.

Ongoing, online updates will keep this manual an invaluable resource for parents and professionals alike."

--Barry M. Prizant, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, Director, Childhood Communication Services, Adjunct Professor, Center For the Study of Human Development, Brown University

Karen Simmons' expertise in embracing life and reframing autism shows us all how to lead a positive, fulfilling, and productive life while supporting loved ones with special needs. --Stephen Shore, Ed.D.

As a parent, child advocate, university instructor, author, learning and reading specialist, I know The Official Autism 101 Manual is a real gift for every parent and professional.

Each chapter has pearls of wisdom and practical nuggets of advice for a parent who has just discovered their child has autism, or professionals who want leading edge information to better help their patients. --Pat Wyman, Best Selling Author, Learning vs. Testing, Strategies That Bridge The Gap, Founder and CEO, HowToLearn.com, University Instructor for Teachers, California State University, East Bay, Creator of I Read I Succeed Program

1.0 out of 5 stars Much of the same and nothing groundbreaking, June 9, 2007
This review is from: The Official Autism 101 Manual (Paperback)
Those of us out here everyday dealing with autism are constantly looking for the next idea to help our child gain just one more skill, one more word, one more accomplishment. This book is not the foremost authority on this subject, this is more of the same information with some new chapters thrown in and a better forward. We want real information, I want NEW ideas, I want creative processes to help me help my child. I do not want the same drivel that is reproduced and repackaged to resell to me over and over. These people may be experts but they are not visionaries and the book is at best redundant of what is out there and at worst lacking in its attempts at assisting parents and professionals who work and live in the autistic world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Autism Manual Contains Everything To Help Your Child!, April 24, 2006
This review is from: The Official Autism 101 Manual (Paperback)
This Autism 101 Manual is definitively the first of its kind and most complete ever!

Children on the autistic spectrum have unique needs in every area of their lives and 40 of the world's leading autism experts have poured their hearts, souls and knowledge into helping parents, and professionals get all the answers they need to help their children or family members.

I am deeply honored to have contributed a chapter on solving the special visual and reading needs that many children with autism and asbergers syndrome have. My dear friend, Karen Simmons, has an autistic child and her work in the autism community is extraordinary and selfless, as she helps the world search for a cure.

This book is one of those rare finds that you must have and I encourage you to get an extra copy to share with a friend in order to help find the cure for autism that is so desperately needed.

More cases of autism are being diagnosed than ever before and this book raises awareness to a whole new level. It includes unique and proven solutions, treatment options, strategies and most of all - the love and support you need if you have an autistic child, family member or friend.

This review is from: The Official Autism 101 Manual (Paperback)
Having an autistic child myself, I have purchased quite a number of books on Autism.

I just bought this book this morning, and am reading it from cover to cover right now. I just paused to grab lunch and write a quick review giving it 5 stars - it's that good.
