An addendum to the prior review by Ms Day,

I must disagree with parts of this review; my copy is clean and crisp, both the print quality and the color photographs are fine - better than average, in fact. I suspect Ms Day bought a copy damaged somehow during the printing process - and it is not really fair to review a book based on having a sub-standard copy. Also, surely one does not expect recent show data when the publishing date is clearly stated as 1995.
Overall, a nice solid breed book.

This book is nice and tells you the PON's history by the people who are PON enthusiasts, and not generic book publishers! It's not a generic book, which means that you will not find a lot of information on how to take care of a dog or a puppy. The information, however, is specific to the breed and they address PON related issues. Even if you just flip through this book you can see that the authors did a great research.
The print is another story. Although pictures are nice, the print methods are outdated, as well as information concerning dog shows and breeders dates back to 1995. A lot has changed in the PON world since then. I wished they printed this book again, using acid free paper and modern methods and stopped selling books printed in 1995. Pictures (with glossy overlay that look like photos) are already faded (think of how your printed photos from 1980s look now), faded to the point that you cannot clearly recognize all the fur colors, and pages slowly turn yellow! I still give this book 4 stars. It's a nice book to have if you are a PON enthusiast and at the end printed words are more meaningful than photos, and it's not easy to find all that information elsewhere. It was printed by PON lovers for other PON lovers has a feel of self-published book, I like that. |
