Not one of the better Man live albums,
By
This review is from: Official Bootleg (Audio CD)
Note that you can also buy this album in a 2 disc set, that comes with All's Well That Ends Well. This not one of the better Man live albums. It is certainly better than Live at Reading (which, thankfully, is unavailable) but there are so many that are better. It is from a 1994 concert and is 78 minutes long. So quality is just adequate. First, the good tracks. It starts out with a very spacy intro to C'mon. The whole track is 16 minutes long and is good throughout. It is a very good start to the album, but the rest doesn't come close. Ride and View has always been a good song, and they do a very nice 10 minute version here. It has a 9 minute slide guitar intro tacked on. It has some good moments and some boring ones. The CD ends up with a nice version of Bananas. Bananas was never one of my favorite songs (especially as done on Live At Reading), but here they do a nice job, especially in the middle. The rest of the songs are pretty bad and they are played poorly. Wings Of Mercury is a tribute to John Chipollina of Quicksilver. Deke Leonard asks the question: why is it always the good ones that die. Why couldn't it have been Phil Collins? Nice sentiment, but poorly played song. Instead of this, get Back Into the Future, Live At the Rainbow, Live at Padgett's Room or 1999 Tour Party. Or get Quicksilver's Happy Trails. Is 2 stars too harsh? Maybe it deserves 3, but I set my expectaions high with Man. And if you use a CD burner to cut out the crap, you could end up with around 40 minutes of good music.

Man Alive (again),

This review is from: Official Bootleg (Audio CD)
A nice latter day official "bootleg" Contains a few old favourites plus a few from recent albums. Overall an excellent addition to the Man archives. Well worth buying.
