Unbelievable source of valuable information,
By robert campiglia (Las Vegas, Nevada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Official U. S. Casino Chip Price Guide (Hardcover)
This is by far the ultimate source of information on the exciting casino chip collectible hobby. This is not merely a price guide like most of the other books on casino chips that i have seen, but a remarkable full color display of the rarest chips i have seen. In addition, the history of some of the casinos and the use of casino chips over the last century is delightfully represented. The best part about the book is the invaluable Grading System set up by the authors. This unprecedented system is of utmost importance for any serious chip collector. Aside from all of this, just seeing all the full-colored pictures of the actual casino chips makes this book one that should be on everyone's book shelf. A TRUE MASTERPIECE!

This review is from: The Official U.S. Casino Chip Price Guide (Schiffer Book for Collectors) (Paperback)
If you collect casino chips, or are just interested in the history of casinos and casino chips, then this book is a must. Every conceivable chip from just about every casino that ever existed is displayed. Chips are all listed with an estimated value which is very useful, especially for the casual collector like myself. There is a thorough discussion of chip characteristics and grading criteria. The research that went into this book is phenomenal. Mr. Campiglia has painstakingly documented sales, scarcity and the history of each and every chip. The book is well laid out with color photos of each chip and many photos of the casinos they came from. There are also many interesting factoids and anecdotes pertaining to the history of casinos in America. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and refer to it often as I build my collection. I give this book my highest recommendation.

This review is from: The Official U.S. Casino Chip Price Guide, Fourth Edition (Paperback)
This Fourth Edition is much better and a lot more detailed than the price guide in the past. And much easier to look up chips this time. I love all the new pictures. If you collect casino chips or a history buff of the past, what a better way to learn about the old casinos as far the chips they used and designs. Thanks

Deals mostly with higher demominations of chips. Many people like myself collect as we travel and only collect $1 chips.

Descent but incomplete,
By
This review is from: The Official U.S. Casino Chip Price Guide (Schiffer Book for Collectors) (Paperback)
This is the best casino chip price guide currently available. It is incomplete in that it does not include any of the Silver Strikes or metal slot token issues.
The price guide is a paperback, not a hardcover as listed in the title.

Excellent and well written book. Has most of the chips on the current market, but finding some on Ebay that arn't in the book. Hopfully they will expand the book in the next addition. The format is very easy to use. A web site to reference with updated / additional photos would be nice.

Not the most complete guide,
By
This review is from: The Official U.S. Casino Chip Price Guide, Fourth Edition (Paperback)
The Official U.S. Casino Chip Price Guide, Fourth Edition, is not the most complete chip guide out there, but does make a very good attempt on the subject.
If you specialize in chips from the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, this guide does provide one of the best sources for that casino. As for as other casinos like the Palms in Vegas only their basic chips were contained in the guide, none of the special releases(such as Playboy or Betty Paige) were in the guide. This guide does not feature any casinos in Arizona. I found a number of errors as well in the guide, a caption quoting a $5 chip as a $1 and a picture for a 3rd Edition Excalibur $5 chip, but no price or listing for that matter in the Guide itself. |
