About the Author

Michael Wiesenberg made his living playing poker for 10 years before turning to a career as technical writer in the computer field. His books reflect those two careers: Free Money: How to Win in the Cardrooms of California, and Puzzled Programmers, a collection of short stories, each of which introduces a mathematical puzzle best solved by computer, with solutions presented in three programming languages. He also coauthored a pioneering book on desktop publishing, and has been a Card Player Magazine columnist since the inception of the magazine. Prior to that, he had regular columns in Poker Player and Pan Player+, in addition to columns in various computer magazines. Wiesenberg ranks among today's most prolific and respected poker authorities.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Rich Language of Poker, May 15, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Official Dictionary of Poker (Paperback)
No game (except, possibly, baseball) has enriched the English language as much as poker. We all understand "ante up" and "playing close to the vest" and, possibly, "four-flusher" and "dead man's hand". But, how about a "double belly-buster", an "Elmer", or a "juice joint"? Well all these terms, and many hundreds more, are defined in this book with wit and precision by an author who has obviously spent many hours at the poker table with his ears open. He also gives examples of how the terms are used in real poker table talk. Read this book. You'll enjoy it and you'll talk like the most experienced poker pro, even of you still play like an Elmer.
