A good, and sadly necessary guide
Family Tree Maker is a versatile and robust database program that does an excellent job as an organizer of your genealogical studies. However, Family Tree Maker is somewhat clunky to use and has some very non-intuitive features. (At least Family Tree Maker 2005 does.) So, to get the most out of your new software, it is best to invest in this guide to using it...

This is a good book to use with the new Version 9 of Family Tree Maker. Although I am a little disappointed that some areas are not explained very well - namely the creation of books. It is excellent at showing you how to create the books (and using other functions) but it does not explain how they work.

Family Tree Maker is a versatile and robust database program that does an excellent job as an organizer of your genealogical studies. However, Family Tree Maker is somewhat clunky to use and has some very non-intuitive features. (At least Family Tree Maker 2005 does.) So, to get the most out of your new software, it is best to invest in this guide to using it.
This book takes a very simple, "for Dummies" type approach to Family Tree Maker. The chapters are organized in a way to allow the features of FTM to unfold to the reader, and the application is spelled out in a simple step-by-step way, with plenty of illustrating pictures. So, if you are interested in getting Family Tree Maker, then I would recommend that you get a book to help you. And, if you are going to get such a book, this is a good one to get.
