This is the same book that is included on the program disk in pdf format. I prefer sitting in a chair and leafing through the book to trying to read it on the computer. The 2008 version of Family Tree Maker is very different (much more Internet integrated)from prior versions. It is worth reading either this book or the pdf if you are going to be serious about tracing your family tree. There are lots of hints and explanations. I'm not sure I'd buy it again but I'd sure be looking for one to borrow!

I was given the Familiy Tree Maker without documentation as a gift. I found that the 2008 version was enhanced over my older version and this book really helped me to use the features in this version. It would have been nice if there were a few more examples as I am new to collecting geneology information. I would recommending buying this book if you are new to version 2008.

Very good companion to the software. Photo detail. I'm still not sure if I prefer this to the previous family tree maker....some great upgrades and some I wish they had left alone. If you have never used previous FTM programs, you'll love this.....

I ordered 2010 edition and I got 2008 edition. I have found it to be very useful and helpful anyway so I kept it and later i will order 2010 edition again.

nothing different than what is in help file. "the Official" should have been a dead giveaway. Just tells you how to do things not how to solve problems. Need a book written by a really experienced user not the creator of the software.

This book is a must for FTM users. This book provides detailed directions on how to make the most of FTM. This book is highly recommended.

This is a well written book, but... The 2008 version (Presentation) of FTM so radically different from the earlier versions that some sort of "cross reference" or tutorial should have been included so long time users of the earlier versions could easily navigate and find comparable items andentry point s in Version 2008.

After much research and discussions we purchased Family Tree Maker 2008-Platinum. As a beginner it has been very easy to use and understand. After 3 weeks of the purchase we purchased the same software for my brother so that we could both research our family history. With this purchase we received 6 months of [...] and that has been just as fabulous...easy to use and understand.
