Scraping the bottom of the barrel, May 20, 2005
This review is from: Official Live Mountain Bootleg Series, Vol. 5: Fillmore East, New York, NY, 28 December, 1970 (Audio CD)
I collect music. For example, I have 1600 Grateful Dead (dating from 65-66) concerts on CD (or DAT). So I know a little about collecting music and music quality from this era. The Fillmore(s) used to tape the bands coming through (as I understand it typically without their knowledge). I have a bunch of these Fillmore concerts. You can purchase other Fillmore concerts (i.e. Jefferson Airplane, Ten Years After) to get a good idea. They are soundboards (in other words through the musicical instruments/amps to the mixing board etc.). They sound good.
On the other hand, many hobbyists would sneak in tape the band of different equipment and setup mics or hide them (if taping was not allowed).
This is a pretty poorly recorded audience tape. I paid $35 for something I would trade a friend for or just give away (the quality is so lacking).
With that said, if you are an absolute Mountain nut, then you may enjoy this. If you aren't, and don't want to listen to very poorly recorded music, stay away from this.
Shame on Leslie and Corky for putting this out at that price. Spend your money on the Mountain studio recordings or other well recorded live music from other bands.

This sounds like a true bootleg. The recording is quite bad. The music is very good, but there should have been some remastering of this before its is officially released. All that being said it's great to hear Leslie West playing incindiary guitar from the premier rock palace of all time.

Mountain: Live with guts and taste, September 19, 2006
This review is from: Official Live Mountain Bootleg Series, Vol. 5: Fillmore East, New York, NY, 28 December, 1970 (Audio CD)
Having been a Mountain fan since the first Leslie West: "Mountain" LP in 1969, I have a particular affinity for Mountain. Having heard virtually all the live bootlegs of the band in their heyday, I'd rate this one above average. The audio fidelity/mixing is quite good and the band was playing hot as well as tastefully. Also, the repertoire on this gig was great, including the rarely performed "Travelin' In The Dark". I reccomend this one to Mountain fans.
