5.0 out of 5 stars It's just too good to be true..., March 16, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Official Netscape Navigator Gold 3.0 Book for Windows: The Official Guide to the Premiere Web Navigator and HTML Editor (Paperback)
This book helped me more on HTML 3 than any other book has. I paid upwards of $50 for other HTML books and this one is cheaper and twice as easy. Javascript, Java, HTML code, and the in's and out's of the internet are explain with samples and things to watch out for.

4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent reference guide., May 11, 1997

This review is from: Official Netscape Navigator Gold 3.0 Book for Windows: The Official Guide to the Premiere Web Navigator and HTML Editor (Paperback)
If you want to learn the ins and outs of Netscape Navigator Gold, this is the book for you. There are lots of "goodies" that the average person will not find just by using Netscape's browser capabilities.

This isn't the sort of book you read cover-to-cover. It's more like a box of Whitman's chocolates. The reader is inclined to sample various points in different chapters, and for this reason, this book is a better reference than it is straight reading material.

The information on Gold's web editing capabilites is excellent, and is much clearer than Netscape's documentation. It was worth trying because this feature can save a web designer a tremendous amout of time by eliminating the typing of hyperlinks on a listed page. The book plainly notes that the web designer will still have to polish the page on a text editor, and I was grateful for the honesty.
The section on JavaScript is vague. You are much better off buying the Dansesh book (Teach Yourself Javascript 1.1 in a Week) or the O'Reilly book if you want to learn JavaScript. However, the chapters on JavaScript in "Netscape Navigator Gold 3.0" can serve as a useful introduction.

Overall, this is still the best reference that I have seen on Netscape products.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely the "bestest" book for Gold 3.0 in the world!, April 18, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Official Netscape Navigator Gold 3.0 Book for Windows: The Official Guide to the Premiere Web Navigator and HTML Editor (Paperback)
I'm a brand new PC learner (having "graduated" from a Mac!), and just got on the internet late last summer. This book is the best one I could've ever gotten, so easy to understand and use! There are no hard concepts to try to figure out, and his sense of humor is just great. He spells everything out step by step; even a child could understand and follow his instructions. He explains to the nth degree, and makes it all so clear that within a couple of hours, my web pages were done! (Not too bad for a lady in her 50's!!) He makes it all so simple and enjoyable, which it should be! His writing style is so great, that I will be looking for other books by him for other programs. Alan Simpson gets my heartfelt thanks for doing a masterful job!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable bargain for a SUPER teaching aid!, December 29, 1996
By A Customer
This review is from: Official Netscape Navigator Gold 3.0 Book for Windows: The Official Guide to the Premiere Web Navigator and HTML Editor (Paperback)
I purchased The Official Netscape Navigator
Gold 3.0. With having NO former experience at publishing web pages, I
had an "UP AND RUNNING" Web Page within just one hour. After another
hour or so, it really looked great! (All this after less than one hour
of reading!) This is the FIRST "how to" computer book that I have ever
purchased that I really feel that I got my money's worth and MORE! It is
so well written that I can study, remember and utilize the info without
referring back to the book when computing. This book literally would be
a bargain at twice the price. Thanks for a great product!

Sincerely,

Len Rusnak, rocknrol@rmi.net Montrose, Colorado

4.0 out of 5 stars Great introduction to web publishing using Navigator Gold 3, October 25, 1996
By A Customer
This review is from: Official Netscape Navigator Gold 3.0 Book for Windows: The Official Guide to the Premiere Web Navigator and HTML Editor (Paperback)
One of the current hot internet topics is web publishing. As more editors are released allowing an individual to create web pages without learning the sometimes complex HTML language, interest will continue to increase. Alan Simpson has written a very useful introduction to web publishing using Netscape Navigator Gold 3.0.

Netscape Navigator is the most popular web browser. In its 'Gold' version Netscape included tools for the editing of pages. While online help is available, it is sometimes useful to have a paper manual with examples. Simpson has filled this void. The book explains and illustrates the browsing capabilities of Netscape Navigator, but he spends most of the book discussing how to create web pages.

Since the book is specifically tied to Netscape it probably wouldn't interest someone using another web editor. In addition, someone who is only using Netscape to browse the web would not find the book as useful; there are a number of other books available on that subject. But of the books I examined I found it to be the best in explaining the topic.

The book also contains a CD-ROM with useful web publishing tools.
