4.0 out of 5 stars A GREAT ASSET FOR THE COMIC COLLECTOR
Overstreet is certainly the book to have when trying to access the value of your collection. I only regret that they removed the grading system from this book and have moved to endorsing commercial companies to do this for you. Wizard only care about what is hot right now. All in all, this book is your best bet but alway remember, something is only worth what someone else...

2.0 out of 5 stars Sadly, no Grading Guide with this edition
This book's discription includes, "Tips On Grading," well there's some false advertising, it's not in this book. 2.0 out of 5 stars Sadly, no Grading Guide with this edition, May 13, 2006

This book's discription includes, "Tips On Grading," well there's some false advertising, it's not in this book. After 35 editions, a very poor decision was made to leave out the brief but very useful GRADING section in this, the 36th edition. A mere 8 pages (there are 200+ pages of dealer advertising), this section IS included with the 35th edition, as well as all previous editions to the best of my knowledge. VERY helpful to the new collector, this section gives a brief description of how to grade, and lists individual grades and what to look for, along with a grading chart for reference.

Replacing this section is a 6 page "About This Book" comic strip that includes a pasted mini of the latest Overstreet Comic Book Grading Guide (not such subliminal advertising) next to the line, "It's a good practice to develop relationships with dealers and other collectors who prove themselves trustworthy," along with a dealer saying, "Many people have started using independent third party grading services such as CGC." Weak. Did CGC pay for that plug? Feel The Force Luke...looks like the folks at Overstreet feel the typical collector cannot be trusted to grade his or her own comics without purchasing an entire book (conveniently from the same publisher) devoted to the subject...

So...in a nutshell after 35 editions, the grading section has been pulled, with new collectors being directed to "professional" grading services and separate books...no longer all in one (and one for all).

I love the price guide, but miss (can you tell?) this section greatly.

3.0 out of 5 stars Questionable prices, June 1, 2006
By

I was a bit surprise to see that Overstreet quoted some of my collection at the same value as the one published in the monthly comic magazine Wizard. It's be widely known that Wizard tends to overestimate the value of comics so as to drum up interests for anew generation of collectors, but it is shocking to see Overstreet, a trusted publication since the invention of comics, to use the same pricing techniques as Wizard.
If one take the time to do price research on Ebay and other popular auction sites, one would see that most comics can be had for a fraction of what Overstreet is stating in value. Newcomers to the world of comics should take the prices quoted in Overstreet with skepticism.
The positive aspect of the Overstreet Price Guide is it gave a most comprehensive catalogue of comics published since the turn of the 20th century to today.

3.0 out of 5 stars Paperback Poor Quality Binding., July 10, 2006

Iv'e had several Paperback Overstreet Guides and after moderate use pages tend to come loose from the binding and the book becomes worthless as a resale not to mention trying to keep it together. The Hardbacks seem to hold up much better and are more desirable as a collector item. For the additional price I find it is worth going with the Hardback version. I have never found Amazon.Comm to offer the Hardback and I don't know why??

5.0 out of 5 stars Comic Book Price Guide, March 16, 2007
This review is from: The Official Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide, 36th Edition (Paperback)
This was an excellent, informative guide which gave prices for just about all the comics published in the United States. It also had pictures of the comics and factual information and added knowledge to the collector of comics. In my opinion, it's a the "bible" for comic collectors!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, Informative and Comprehensive, February 8, 2007

This is a good price guide, seems to be realistic, covers a large array of issues, very comprehensive, I would recommend this to anyone. I used this over a decade ago and thought it undervalued things some, but with time comes wisdom I guess, seems to be as accurate as can be hoped.

5.0 out of 5 stars 'THE' Comic book guide, June 29, 2006
This review is from: The Official Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide, 36th Edition (Paperback)
As usual Overstreet has come forward with the benchmark that we all use for pricing/grading comics. They cover gold/silver/ bronze age all the way up today. If you want an accurate reference for pricing your comics, Overstreet is the way to go.
