This latest Overstreet Guide is a significant improvement over earlier editions. Notably, many more point types from the Western USA are included. There's even a section on Alaska artifacts. Well done!

The Overstreet series of books have a system for identifying and determining the value of prehistoric arrowheads in the continental United States and Alaska. The book is divided into geographic zones, such as the Southwest, or the North Central, etc. You will need to know the general area where the arrowhead came from, and then compare its general shape with other known types in the same area. Once you have identified one or several types that are similar to the arrowhead you are attempting to identify, you can compare your arrowhead to the pictures and descriptions of the other similar type or types. These pictures are in black and white, except for a few pages of broad/general overview of all arrowheads. The book is very useful for identifying the specific name of the arrowhead you are attempting to identify and its age.

It also lists the "wholesale" and "retail" dollar values of the arrowheads. These values seem to be consistently higher than those in other references.

There is also a section on "Old World" artifacts with descriptions and color pictures, but no values.

In my opinion, the real value of this book is in helping you to identify what you have.

Excellent reference for types and location. Photos of examples and construction of the book is greatly improved over earlier issues. While the price indications are still inflated, the information provided more than overcomes this single complaint. A must have for any lithic collector.

This was purchased for someone who occasionally encounters arrowheads, etc. when rock-hounding. It is initially a bit overwhelming, but recommend the reader take the time to study some basic information in front of book and then focus on the outstanding visual examples for a particular part of the country.

I purchased this book to identify some arrowheads that I received. Not to price them, but just to figure out what they are. It's actually conveniently broken down into regions, types, etc. It gives complete instructions on how to identify an arrowhead/primitive tool. That being said, I never did figure out what I have. It's like a bird identification book, the photos rarely match exactly what one sees. I'm not big into this hobby and I am a total novice. I would image once one has used the book frequently and masters the nomenclature it would be a very handy reference book. I just don't currently have the interest to thoroughly pursue it yet.

For someone who is interested in the hobby, I think this would be a very useful tool. I might have given it a higher rating if I had gone right to the identification of my arrowheads. maybe I need Arrowhead Identification for Dummies?

I got this for my mom for Christmas. She was sooo excited when she opened her present and said that another indian artifact collector told her that this was the best book for indian artifacts. Every time I talk to her she talks about how much she loves this book.

11 years strong and still growing. If one wants to identify, classify, grade, or estimate their arrowhead(s) value, then this is the must have book. All the arrowheads are shown actual size, less otherwise noted. It sorts arrowheads by national (U.S.A.) regions. There is no other book of it's kind!

This is the best guide I have found for both true artifacts and for flintknappers looking to reproduce something close.

My dad loves Indian artifacts and he was so excited when I bought this book as a birthday present for him. He had a similar book with a lot less detail and information that he had worn out. So when I gave this book to him he couldn't wait to read it, and it wasn't just because he was being polite. I know a little about Arrowheads, and was amazed by the pictures and detail in this book. If you like Arrowheads, then I think you will love this book. My dad still talks about the book because he looks at it often. Great price and Great buy!!!

Exactly what a novice or veteran artifact enthusiast should have to give an idea of recent values and identification of American Indian artifacts. The next best thing to being up to date with current auction prices.
