5.0 out of 5 stars The best home repair guide I've ever read
As a single mother and home owner, this book finally made the very intimidating world of home repair completely understandable. I've already completed a couple of projects that I'd been avoiding and found the chapters extremely entertaining!

3.0 out of 5 stars Seems very boring
I bought this as a gift for my girlfriend who has been plagued by house repair issues. I looked over the book for a few minutes. The advise seems pretty simple and clear, but the book is so boring. All black and white with very few pictures. I will update after I get her feedback.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Handy Guide To Home Maintenance, March 19, 2001
This review is from: The Official Rent-A-Husband Guide to a Safe, Problem-Free Home: Quick, Easy, and Effective Solutions for Do-It-Yourselfer Improvements and Repairs (Paperback)
The author of the book, Kaile Warren, Jr., is also the owner of the Rent-A-Husband handyman business. As such, he has real life experience concerning what the target audience for this book wants and needs to know. It is a handy basic primer covering a myriad of topics on simple household repair problems, storage solutions for all areas of the house, and home safety and security tips. All in all it is a really nice book to keep as a handy quick reference.

The first section of the book concentrates on basic terminology and provides information on which tool is right for a particular job. Everything from power tools to nails gets a quick explanation. Also included in this section is advice on how to tackle common household repairs to faucets, toilets, electrical outlets, faulty lamps and switches, and tips on installing floor tile and sheet viny. One other thoughtful addition is the discussion of when to decide not to take on a repair job and instead call in an expert.

The section on storage solutions for all areas of the house is well done. It includes buying tips for a variety of modular and other units. There are even instructions for the adventurous who want to build some units for themselves.

Part three of the book discusses and illustrates several facets of home security and home safety considerations. For those living alone, this section of the book alone may well be enough justification for buying it.

If you fall within the specific target audience (the title will give you a clue as to whether you do or don't), this is a very nice book to have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rent-A-Husband Guide a Story and a Reference Rolled Into 1, March 2, 2001

This review is from: The Official Rent-A-Husband Guide to a Safe, Problem-Free Home: Quick, Easy, and Effective Solutions for Do-It-Yourselfer Improvements and Repairs (Paperback)
I just read the Rent-A-Husband Guide and thought it was great. It was fun, funny, and filled with very useful hints, insights, and instruction. The stories in and of themselves made the book worth having. I feel much better equiped now to tackle the nagging chores around the house like things that squeek, wiggle, or are falling off. I also got some good ideas on ways to organize my house, make it safer and my work more productive.

The book is well written with very good, helpful information appropriately humorous at times, serious at others. Fantastic. It is the first How To book I've ever read cover to cover. I learned a lot, and laughed out loud.
