About the Author
Mies Hora founded the software content publishing firm Ultimate Symbol in 1992. He is responsible for directing the design, development, and marketing of the print and electronic versions of its growing library of titles, which includes: Design Elements, Nature Icons, WebPage Graphics, Pictorial Symbols, and Official Signs & Icons. He co-authored the best-selling design reference books, "Design Elements 1, 2, 3, and 4". A graduate of Parsons School of Design, he has also been the design director of Hora Associates for 25 years, which specializes in corporate identity graphics. Mies is an Adjunct Professor of Design at the State University of New York (SUNY) and has received numerous awards for his work.

Wow! What a great book. I've never before seen such a comprehensive collection of contemporary signs, symbols and labels as this. They all look to be extremely accurate and well organized. There are interesting background essays on the many categories of symbols, such as the history and development of Braille, and a complete alphabetical index of all 4,811 images. I highly recommend this meticulously produced reference for your design (or any other) library.

Good resource book for design. But, even better- you can get 4811 icons/signs you see in the book on a CD as editable vector EPS files, all royalty free. The publisher, [...] sells it for two hundred fifty usd. I haven't seen it on Amazon yet.

I use this book as a reference when I am designing icons. I wish it were more thorough, particularly for traffic symbols, but it's better than any other book that I've found.
