The official study guide gives you great examples and practice tests which I think are a bit harder than the real thing.

I going to college on a budget, and I am in the process of taking roughly 20-25 subject CLEP tests. I know of some others that think you have to be a genius to take these, which by the way is completely false. However, you do need the proper study materials if you plan on taking these, and you need to use them! Also please do some research on what a CLEP is & what taking on entails & how it benefits you. I mean 3 to 6 college credits for about $100 and 40-60hrs of studying is totally awesome in my opinion, but make sure you understand how CLEP test taking works before you go and buy something and then say it was a rip off, when actually that might not be so. :)

CLEP's are quite similar to multiple choice finals; and not brain buster ones either (not to say they don't require some studying). You shouldn't just screw the whole idea of taking on of these tests just because you bought one study material book & didn't pass, or didn't feel like you would pass. I would not suggest this particular book necessarily if you are only going to take a couple of CLEPs (esp. if they are on of the 5 "general" CLEPs), but I would if you plan on taking maybe 3 or more and want to get as close of an idea as you can to what the actual test is going to be like. Many test prep-material makers like REA, etc. have great practice tests, but are sometimes harder than the real thing, or a little bit on the easy side (in comparison). This book is filled with one practice test for each subject CLEP College Board makes (in case you skipped the info/description text amazon provided above).

The materials and practice exams are very helpful. I studied for the test for several days and then took the test and passed on the first try!

We already had a 2009 version and there really weren't significant changes in this. Probably would have spent my money on something else.

This is great if you're taking a lot of tests like I did, but it doesn't offer any explanation for the answers, so you have to figure out why you got a question wrong. I used this in addition to the Princeton review book and some online resources.

I'm taking 3 CLEP exams this summer, so bought this book to use as I studied. I was surprised it didn't have more specific study guides and only one practice test per topic. I did find useful the guidelines that listed the topics that would be covered and the percentage of the test questions that would be made up of that topic. Overall, not all that helpful and probably could have passed without this.
