Welcome to the Wonderful Whirling World of WAP,

Don't get me wrong. This is a 5 star book but before buying this book please be aware that this book is about the WAP 1.0 specification while the most recent version is 1.1. Because of big differences between the two specifications I would recommend buying the new version of this book based on the WAP 1.1 specifications as soon as it comes out.

To the person concerned about the WAP 1.1 Standard...,

This review is from: Official Wireless Application Protocol: The Complete Standard with Searchable CD-ROM (Hardcover)
Please note, this book was intended and designed to be "version proof". As we stated on the back cover of the book, "As an added benefit, the CD-ROM provides access to a web site dedicated to providing ongoing updates to the WAP specification, in the same custom searchable, indexed infobase found on the CD-ROM." Just load your CD from the book and go to www.wiley.com/compbooks/WAP and you'll find the complete standard, WAP 1.1 waiting for you to download to the CD that comes with the book." So, don't worry, and pull down your updates from the web. Enjoy! the folks at John Wiley & Sons

Suggest skipping this title. Many of the examples provided in the book are just plain out of date, using a version of WML that you won't find in any shipping phone. You might also waste time fiddling with the organization of the book.Suggest getting the docs that come with some of the FREE SDKs (e.g. Nokia, etc.), using the source code examples there. If you must read this, get it from the library.

Informative, but totally unreadable,
By Zeev Lieber (North York, Ontario Canada) - See all my reviews

The documentation is virtually impossible to understand. Sections for WSP, WDP and WTLS use 3 different notations to describe the format of binary messages. When a constant is mentioned it leaves you clueless as to what possible values may be - and so on. However, looks like it's the only source of information on the low level protocols of WAP stack.

Official, professional and difficult reading,

The book is very informative and professionally put together. It covers all aspects of WAP. In general, computer books and manuals are not easy to read! Ditto this book. The language and examples are not simple or easy to understand.
