There's nothing Blazin' about ATV Off Road, a bit of a misleading title of you ask me. The game trots along at an ok speed, hardly blazin' though. Imagine Burnout 3 on the Playstation 2 and halving the speed, that's about as blazin' as the action gets.

This review is from: ATV Offroad Fury Blazin Trails (Video Game)

At first i found this game to be really tough and frustrating but i kept on playing and slowly kept on winning when i upgraded my ATV.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The secret to this game is to release gas pedal when youre in the air and press it again when you're about to hit the ground. Landing is also everything so make sure you land on a downhill and not on a uphill which will just slow you down.

Make sure you upgrade your bumpers coz when a collision happens youre most likely the one who survives and not the other guy.

also make sure you use the right tires so check it before the game starts. If it has 5/5 stars or 4/5 stars it means its compatible with the ground.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

People who rated this game below 4 stars were just impatient and i dont blame them, i put down my spiderman2 game after 1 level coz i find it difficult and boring.

This is still a challenging game for me, i always have to keep on replaying a level before i get to win just to memorize each corner.

I would definitely give this game a chance coz this is the only game i still play (roughly 2+ months now) and i havent played any of my games....not even lumines.... and it goes for less than $30 now!!!

This game is a long awaited relief to the otherwise boring lineup for the PSP. It feels just as good as it's previous versions but It's handheld! Good buy. Don't read the other reviews, I almost passed on this game due to those false reviews, don't be as foolish.

I recently rented this game and I am pretty happy with it. It is a little challenging, but once you get the hang of it its really fun. The graphics are very nice, the sound isnt bad, but the gameplay is a little tough(its not a major problem). The replayability is also pretty good(I recommend that you dont play it too long the first day you get it;it might get boring). Overall, I enjoyed this game and im probably going to buy it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Are these People Reviewing the Correct Game???, May 3, 2005

I'm having an absolute blast playing this game. It's quite addicitive and all around a great game. I think most of the negative reviews of this game are false. I myself almost didnt by this game based on these reviews but I am sure glad I didnt listen to them. The gameplay is solid, the ATV controls are challenging but very realistic. I love how you can slide into turns and adjust the pitch of the atv in the air, kind of like the real thing. There are tons of tracks to choose from ranging from Superscroos style, National, enduro, and stunt style. You can even purchase additional tracks with credits earned for winning races. There are tons of ATV's you can purchase as well, each with their own performance characteristics. You can customize your uniform, helments, etc. You can tweak your bike's shocks, tires, pipes, etc... I mean this game has it all. There are different modes to race too, like a chapionship mode that is kind of like a career mode. It is in this mode where after winning you earn points which unlock new tracks and events. As far as the graphics are concerned I think they are great. The ATV's themselves are not the nicest I've seen but they more than serve the purpose. The AI racers are also very challenging to beat, the game is not that easy. Anyone who is a fan of supercross or ATV's or enjoyed playing Motocross madness will absolutely love this game. You can pull off a lot of cool stunts and some serious air!! This game is a winner....decide for yourself on this one...don't listen to the bogus reviews.

***UPDATE*** in response to "A Gamer's" review....
First of all I gave the game an overall of 4 stars..but since then I think it now deserves a 5 after continued play. This game is so much fun it didn't take me much time to think about what review to give it...it's an absolute blast to play ..once again I'll will 100% endorse this game to anyone who comes my way..DO NOT listen to these negative reviewers...This guy complains he can't stay on the track or perform any tricks and finds it "annoying" PLEEEASSEE...just because you have your own "personal" issues with the game don't rate it based on your incompetence in playing it...yes it does take practice to get good and is not easy but thats what makes this game challenging and fun...try upgrading tires or suspension to get better control of your ATV...certain tires perform better on certain types of tracks...pay attention to the tire ratings...Also, I strongly disagree with this game being a rental..its replay value is excellent...I find myself playing it against others online quite frequently...don't hesitate to buy this game..you can thank me later.

This game has been a blast. I do not understand the reviews below that are negative. The tracks are challenging, and short or long enough to keep your attention.

Online gameplay is alot of fun. Definately go out an buy this game.

Playing ATV I got the distinct impression that the PSP is not quite as powerful as I'd been led to believe. I thought the PSP was supposed to be portable PS2, and if the PSP is as powerful as the PS2, then why is there a distinct noticeable lack of track side objects on the screen. On screen there are ATV's and track and very little else. Some tracks do have those plastic covered hay bails which are overly large, being about twice the length of an ATV and about the same height as rider and bike combined?

Sound on ATV Fury is the weakest element of the whole game, consisting mostly of an annoying whining noise. The sound could have used some real beefing up.

All in all ATV is nothing special and somewhat on the stale side and offers nothing new.

4.0 out of 5 stars ATV Offroad Fury for PSP, April 20, 2005

Les (Rapid City, SD) - See all my reviews
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars

I'm not sure why all the reviews thus far are so negative, and a few of those reviews don't have much detail. Is it because you dislike the title in general, or is it that you dislike it on the PSP version, as those comments were posted before the game was even released in the US?

First, I've always been a Big ATV Fan, and played ATV and ATV2 of the PS2 console, but then sold the PS2 to get my son the Xbox. I hesitated today to pick this game up do to the negative comments, but I had to try it as this was one of the primary reasons for getting the PSP system. Here is what i determined with this game after playing it for a few hours.

1. The graphics are very nice, but the ATV's themselves are a bit rough around the edges, but still not too bad. The overall look of the game is very nice .

2. Most important, the Gameplay is solid. It's one of those games where once you get started, you don't want to stop. I didn't see any problems with the frame rate, and you can upgrade to faster ATV's after earning points. I don't know if the Japanese version had issues, but the US version, it seems as if the problem has been rectified. Before purchasing, the framrate issue was my biggest concern, but that's the least of my worries after playing it.

3. I haven't played all modes yet, but it does have free ride mode. This is pretty fun if you feel like wandering around, trying to find your own jumps and obstacles. Personally, i don't really get much into the freestyling , but when I was in the training mode, it did have some large jumps so i assume it does have Freesytle mode. ( I will update once i find out).

4. The hardest part is getting used to the controls. It was very touchy, and at first it's difficult to stay on the track, but continuing to play, you get used to it and becomes much easier. I'm still not consistent with the controls after playing for a few hours, but i can put in a solid 3 laps at times so i'm optimistic that within a few more days, i'll have the technique nailed.

The only reason i'm giving it a 4 is due to the time it takes to get used to the controls, and the somewhat long loading times. However, it's no worse than Tiger Wood's loading times. Also, it's no different then trying to get used to Need For Speed Underground on the PSP as those controls are much more difficult in my opinion. The Bottom line: In all honesty, if you're into racing games or if your a Motorcross fan, then this game is a must. I 'm having a hard time putting this game down!

1.0 out of 5 stars The LCD is on - but nobodies home, March 25, 2005
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: ATV Offroad Fury Blazin Trails (Video Game)
ATV Offroad Fury BT feels just plain odd to play. The detachment between bike and race track is uncanny. Have you ever seen one of those old movies where the actors are sitting in a car that is obviously in front of a screen having the image of a road projected onto it. Well if you have, that is exactly how ATV comes across. Its like the track is doing its thing and the bikes are stuck on top doing there thing with no real connection between the two. Odd, just plain odd. While ATV is at best average, the sound is dire, even with the headphones plugged in.

This is one PSP racer not worth adding to your collection.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unresponsive control system lets ATV Fury down, March 24, 2005
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: ATV Offroad Fury Blazin Trails (Video Game)
What a huge let down ATV Fury turned out to be. I dont rate this PSP game at all. The handling of ATV bikes is way off, the controls are unresponsive leading to a sensation of detachment not to mention frustration. It dont look too hot either.

It is still early days for the PSP, lets hope the quality improves over this lazy effort.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great game if you have tons of time on your hands., November 8, 2005

This review is from: ATV Offroad Fury Blazin Trails (Video Game)
YOu will need hours and hours to have fun in this game. Do not make the mistake of thinking you will play and do well from the get go. This game is wicked hard. The concept is great. yahoo, an offroad 4-wheeler game with jumps and tricks. Unfortunately the execution is tough. It is good. truly it is. But most gamers will never make it over the learning curve. By that time they will have given up in disgust thinking the developer of this game just made the game too hard. Rightfully so. We play games to have fun. Not spend our entire life learning to play a game the right way. Note: to developer: Start fun and move to hard and rewarding.
Bottom Line: Is this game fun? Yes, after you have given up on having any good relationships in your life due to over playing offroad. Will I keep this game: Nope. This game is for losers that want to spent too much time on games. Will this game retain it's resale value? You bet. Everyone will fall for the idea of a fun extreme racer with tricks and jumps. Everyone will think they are just a better gamer so they can handle it. Good luck. I'll be playing a game that is fun from the start.
