5.0 out of 5 stars Nightowl keyboard - why spend more?, May 26, 2006

I looked around for a luminescent keyboard that was (1) not too expensive and (2) had decent reviews. With Amazon's free shipping, this Offspring KBGL1 keyboard was the only one that fit that criteria. There were many others that had bad or mixed reviews on Amazon, Newegg and elsewhere. There were also ones that cost more than double the price but had good reviews.

A practical luminescent keyboard fits my night habits well. I tend to be using the PC late at night but don't need or want the room light on. I tried those little USB swivel lights but they were too uneven in illumination to be practical.

As just a keyboard, I'd give it 4 stars - the feel, key placement, etc. are somewhat better on Logitech keys. However, other keysboards are missing the key luminescent feature.

THE PS/2 port fix: the Offspring comes with a USB connector. Since I don't want to tie up my USB ports, I added a common, although not included, (mouse) USB-to-PS2 adapter and it works fine as a PS/2 keyboard too. I did not even bother to install the extra CDROM drivers since I don't need the extra shortcut keys.

Unlike some luminescent keyboards that are annoyingly ON "all the time", this keyboard has a small toggle button on the right side to turn the light on or off. The keyboard feels very stable sitting on my desk slideout tray. It is light but still heavy enough not to slide around. It is also lower than most keyboards. The metallic covered with plexiglass appearance is nice but simple. I might suggest that they could pad the lower plexiglass edge a bit in any future revision. The Offsping is overall just a good and practical keyboard that meets my special nighttime needs.

1.0 out of 5 stars Blue Luminescent USB keyboard., May 13, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Blue Luminescent USB Keyboard (Electronics)
I would never buy this again. I expected a greater quality than it turned out to be. This is about the cheapest quality keyboard around. The keys are real thin. Typing was difficult to say the least and somewhat sticky. Very difficult to get a good feel for the keys, especially the layout is difficult to deal with. I tried it for about 4 hours and gave up.
The whole keyboard has a cheap piece of plexiglass cover, which is sharp on the edges. I even cut myself on the bottom edge. The only purpose for this cover is to give the whole keyboard more physical strength.
The USB cable is short and stiff.
The keyboard tilt pull downs have no click position to them. So if you bump the keyboard forward or even move it forward they flop back down leaving the keyboard flat.

About the only good thing about the keyboard is the lighting of the keys other than that I would in my right mind not recommend this keyboard to anyone.

One cool thing is you could use it as a wonderful nightlight, just get one of the AC USB power converters and voola!! This baby could light up a whole room!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good all around Keyboard, September 19, 2007
This review is from: Blue Luminescent USB Keyboard (Electronics)
This is just a good keyboard. It is compacted though; minus the number pad it is about the size of a 15.4 inch laptop's keyboard. When you first turn the back light on it makes a very high pitch noise (Like a TV when it is on) This goes away after a min or so (My guess is it's warming up). I have had mine for over a about a year now, the light still works (I have left it on for a few days every now and then) Key still work. Yeah I would say it is a great buy for the price.
