5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!, July 25, 2007
This review is from: Often Lie (Audio CD)
I have had this CD for quite a while and it is time to make a statement. This is one of the best CDs I have ever heard. I can't understand why, so I'm not going to pretend that I do. I can listen to this CD time and time again and never get sick of it. Maybe it is the infectious rhythms or the sometimes-poetic lyrics (i.e. "your eyelashes wish their way to the floor"), all I know is that this album is fantastic. Listen to a few clips here on Amazon, give it a try. If you even remotely enjoy what you are hearing, I suggest you pick it up.

The only useful way to write a music review is by the comparative method. So, is the 2005 Often Lie as good as the 2004 Leave Your Name? On the first listen, I was dissapointed. To get my money's worth I listened to it a few more times over and I started to like it - it is just as good. Still, there's no song on here quite as catchy as "When Hours Seemed Like Days".

To characterize the music, Denver Dalley has produced some mighty cool wandering, slowly developing melodies with wispy thin lyrics. Electronic effects mingle happily with the occasionally jamming guitars. It sounds new and fresh, yet it will probably remind you of alot of stuff.

In only two CDs, Statistics has made three tracks of music about making music and playing music. The opener to Leave Your Name was a pretty good tune about music critics - "Sing a Song". The opener on this one is about DJ'ing a radio station, and there's even a song with lyrics about not being able to come up with a name for said song. Is our boy having trouble coming up with lyrics? At only nine tracks and 30 minutes of music, it is a bit light. But then I checked how long Leave Your Name was - and it also tops out at only 30 minutes. Yet this one felt shorter for some reason. Perhaps on his next CD we'll get more tunage.

In closing, I'll say that the CD is not quite as good as Leave Your Name, but still very much worth it if you loved his first.

I listen to this whole CD and it's a great a experience, it's very dark at times; it was a wonderful journey, pick it up!
