This shaker is extremely useful in a variety of scenarios. The after-work, wind-down cocktail. The pre-party, warm-up drink. The after-dinner drink. Even the weekend-long bender (just kidding of course).

I hate to be the voice of disappointment, because I had high hopes for this critter. But I'm a little disappointed.

This shaker is extremely useful in a variety of scenarios. The after-work, wind-down cocktail. The pre-party, warm-up drink. The after-dinner drink. Even the weekend-long bender (just kidding of course).

The dial is easy to twist and turn and the drink recipes are easy to read. Even over time and repeated use. The built-in strainer can't be beat if you've got citrus and ice in the mix. The drink recipes run the gamut from the standard (martini) to the weird (the aforementioned between the sheets). Heck, it even works for drinks whose recipes aren't on the side of the shaker.

My only buying advice would be to buy two of these. Depending on your thirst, frame of mind or company this'll only do for two drinks at a time. For the party person in you, you'll want to be more flexible with your drink mixing.

5.0 out of 5 stars large and easy to use . . . stylish too, June 16, 2000

I've only had this shaker for a few days, but I already love it. The other reviewer was a bit misleading I think. Most of us in the US don't know exactly how much a liter is. That's about 34 ounces. He mentioned that you should buy two of these because you can only make two drinks at a time. The only time this is true is if you're going to be making the "ultimate" sized cocktails. In a normal situation you can get 3 healthy sized drinks out of this guy.

The shaker itself feels sturdy in your grip. It's a bit on the large size (i'm used to 16-24oz shakers... ) so you can't really hold it in the "traditional" way with your pinkies crossed and all, but ... so what?

The dial-a-drink is a nice feature, but most of the drinks on there aren't exactly the most ordered. In a way that's a good thing because if someone happens to want a drink that's on there you won't have to dig out your drink book.

So there you have it. It's big, looks great and works great. If you are in need of a shaker and you want something that even looks cool when it's not in use, then this is definitely something you should consider.

I hate to be the voice of disappointment, because I had high hopes for this critter. But I'm a little disappointed.

Out of the box, it was a little clumsy. The sheath with the holes cut in it fits pretty loosely, and is secured only near the base. That meant it wobbled a little in my hands when I was holding it, which was kinda annoying -- not criminally unpleasant, but irritating, and if I'd been using it all night, it might have led to spillage if you know what I mean.

But then I used this thing twice, maybe three times, before the metal sheath with the holes cut in it pulled free of the shaker body. That was irritating -- it looks kinda goofy like that, and it's difficult to make any use of the recipes at this point.

The capacity is great -- it's perfect for a bunch of guests. And the look is pretty good, even without the sheath, if you're not close enough to notice the writing. I continue to use it, but it doesn't sit on my countertop longer than it takes to get washed, and it's now a "behind the bar" toy.

At 4.5 stars, I expected much better.

4.0 out of 5 stars fun and useful, July 24, 2000
This review is from: Oggi Dial-A-Drink Cocktail Shaker (Kitchen)
Even though we rarely use the "dial-a-drink" feature, it's a fun item and works quite well no matter what you're mixing. (Lately I've been using it to whip cream for tiramisu. <g>) My only complaint is that it takes me forever to get the lid off, but maybe I'm just a wimp. I agree that it's big enough to mix three drinks at a whack, and the stainless steel seems to be of decent quality.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very cool addtion to any bar, January 23, 2001
This review is from: Oggi Dial-A-Drink Cocktail Shaker (Kitchen)
I might be repeating some of the other reviewers' thoughts about this extremely hip shaker, but I really like this thing!

We don't use the dial-a-drink feature of the shaker, but everyone who visits us just loves to play around with it. The dial feature is a bit hard to read if the light is hitting the shaker directly, but it looks so cool that you won't even care. It holds a lot of liquid, so making big drinks is a snap.

I agree with the reviewer who commented that the top is hard to remove--that's entirely true. Granted, you wouldn't want the top to be loose enough to sling booze all over the place, but you also don't want to have to be The Hulk to get it open. A friend of mine has had his for a while now, and it's very hard to open it--might have something to do with the age.

On a funny side note, it makes the best chocolate milk! Pour in your milk, add you favorite choco powder, and shake. The strainer top keeps distributing the powder around, so those clumps of unmixed powder will be a thing of the past--no need for a noisy blender. While I haven't yet used it to make smoothies, a friend of mine who owns one has said that this shaker does that quite well also... (we'll have to test that one out).

This makes an great gift and conversation piece!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mixoligists Creatively Unite, December 13, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Oggi Dial-A-Drink Cocktail Shaker (Kitchen)
My husband loves to show off his elegantly crafted stainless steel cocktail shaker by Oggi. It's either the feel of the art deco curves or the nifty "dial-a-drink" recipe feature or both, which keeps him smiling like a Tom Cruise "Cocktail" wannabe. And when he will allow someone else to play bartender, they seem to get a kick out of spinning up drinks too.

Our newest favorite, as seen in a superb book on entertaining, Every Day's A Party by Emeril Lagasse, (see my review if you like) is his NOLA Blue Glacier Martini. Now, it's not on the shaker, but the handy built in strainer is perfect for this: 1. Chill 4 Martini glasses for about an hour 2. In the cocktail shaker combine: 12-oz. quality vodka, several splashes of Blue Curacao, and 1 cup of ice cubes 3. With a long-handled bar spoon stir the mixture 40 times and just one (BAM!) shake 4. Strain the mixture equally into the Martini glasses 5. Garnish with lemon and orange twists

Careful--they are addictively smooth, as is everything in the Big Easy. Just a mention, our teens get a kick out of using this Oggi shaker for making everything from thin milkshakes to crushed ice power juice concoctions.

4.0 out of 5 stars A lot of fun once you get the top off, February 12, 2010

This review is from: Oggi Dial-A-Drink Cocktail Shaker (Kitchen)
After reading other reviews, I had worried that the top on this shaker would be a problem. However, I decided to risk it and ordered it for my boyfriend for Christmas. When he opened it, I was really worried when he couldn't get the cap off. We were about to send it back when he tried one more time and just pulled the cap straight up rather than twisting it at the same time. The cap then came off just fine and we haven't had any more problems with it since.

1.0 out of 5 stars Hard to open!, August 8, 2009
This review is from: Oggi Dial-A-Drink Cocktail Shaker (Kitchen)
This shaker is impossible to open. From the time we brought it home, I had such a hard time getting the lid off. When I finally did, I couldn't get the lid to the pour spout off. Even my husband had a difficult time. Very frustrating. Save your money!

1.0 out of 5 stars I've given up, January 1, 2002

Despite this being a wedding gift from my brother, I've given up on it. It has become nearly impossible to open! Several people have spilled drinks trying to pry it open. I like it, but it simply doesn't work, and it makes you look like a fool when guests are waiting for their drinks.
