I bought these canisters to go with my white kitchen with stainless steel accents...well, the description said they were airtight (before I brought to their attention they are in fact NOT airtight). I put the lids on and tested them with water and it poured out of all sides...not leaked...POURED! You can't possibly store food in them unless you want critters.

I was almost scared off by the only other 2 reviews which were both only 1 stingy star- I thought, WOW, only one star? These are just, at the very least so visually cool, I thought, they were suspicious reviews. I mean, how bad could these possibly be? Well luckily, I proved these other reviews wrong, or at the least,they were pretty biased or off the valid rating mark they deserve. These are not only fantastic looking, they were just the accent pieces my picky interior-designer partner wanted; they serve our functional needs beautifully as well.We recently updated our mid-century modern kitchen and these canisters were a finishing touch. I did quite a bit of research & I'll admit, I had a harder time finding these canisters than many other far more expensive upgrades- LOL! Happily, the lids appear very secure, but are not so tight that they are difficult to remove. I have had no issues of the covers popping off as the last reviewer stated. They are of a good quality ceramic and typically expensively priced stainless steel lids. Now, I did not test these to see if they are literally "air-tight", but I like my coffee and espresso beans handy, and these seem to work perfect for this purpose and I would just never expect $25.00 canisters to be absolutely airtight! Nor do I store bags of flour exactly measured to match the canister oz capacity! but we are not gourmet chefs & could care less about these issues. One goal was to hold a bag or so of sugar in a large container- and I feel it is quite secure enough to avoid bug issues and a past reviewer expressed great fear over, but only time will predict that one!
Before you write this review off, I'll let you know I have worked professionally as an industrial and architectural designer as well as an artist, so I know a well-built product from junk. I like this company's products in general and think that for the asking price, the quality and looks of this product is quite high compared to most others in this price range. They also have a timeless retro /vintage look that is also distinctly modern at the same time. Hard to find in a relatively inexpensive product!
I am very happy I took the risk and bought the canisters. Just wish they had shipped them for free!(can't have everything) :)
Still, would most definitely buy these again- love them.

I have had these canisters for about 5 yrs, and I have never had any bugs in my flour, sugar, or oats! They look nice and work just fine. They are easy to clean, and easy to use.

Not Airtight!!!
