This keeper is definitely attractive and fits well alongside other items on my counter. However, it seems like many of these containers have the same problem...the opening is too narrow. I purposely don't fill the container to max capacity but even with it half full I can't remove the bag. Everything settles at the bottom and you basically have to bring it outside with you and dump/shake the contents out. I've tried carefully coaxing the bag out but it always ends up tearing and creating a mess. Not exactly what I hoped for but I figured it would be a compromise either way. For the price it looks nice and I dont' have any issues with odors (yet, it's not summertime).

We just received this keeper and are happy with how it looks and the finish.
However, we removed the metal handle because the unit could easily slide out of them if not held only straight up and down (the handle is not attached, only forms a loose loop around the ceramic knobs). Also, the gasket is tight, which no doubt will do a great job of sealing off smells, but makes one-handed operation challenging.
We took the gasket and the handle off and now it's functioning fine.

I just started composting food scraps so I wanted something sitting on the counter that didn't look like a garbage pail, or wasn't one of those ugly cheap, green plastic things the garbage service gives you. The Oggi Ceramic Rooster Countertop Compost Keeper was larger than I expected, and nicer so I'm very pleased with my purchase. Now I can hide the fact that I have a garbage pail on the my counter. Actually, it's nice enough to be a cookie jar if you decide that composting is not your thing.

There's a filter in the lid of the keeper and it seems to work well, especially since the lid fits tightly onto the jar itself. You put bags inside the keeper, so there won't need that much to keep clean. The only flaw I saw in the product was the metal handle that fits over the two knobs that are on the sides of the keeper. When you put the handle on it just sort of lays there, and then you can't slide the keeper up flush to the counter. I left it off because it didn't look like an especially good way to carry the keeper in the first place. I could see it swinging to much and coming right off the keeper. Whether empty of full, it would have made a mess.
