Oggi 5 Piece Creme Brulee Set

i bought this just a while ago and love it, but one of the cups broke and another one had a crack in it, however they replaced it while it was stil under warrenty. The torch is easy to use, but not self-igniting.

Having read some of the reviews for other torches available on Amazon, I decided to go for this Oggi ensemble. As the other reviewer noted, the brulee cups are the flatter oval ones seen with the more expensive "Bonjour" product. However, I consider this a feature, not a bug. For those who love creme brulee, this is the more classic presentation, and a shallower custard with more surface area for glazing produces a superior dessert. The torch has held up fine for us, and seems quite similar to the more expensive versions, so I will have to give it a full 5 stars. Bon apetit!

In our continuing quest for the perfect kitchen and craft creme brulee tourch, we bought the Oggi "5 Piece Crème Brulee Tourch Set" at a local big box. This tourch is a little more powerful than some of the other standard crème brulee torches we own. We use these torches in our home for cooking and in our our small business where we teach crafts. Here are my observations:

Pros:
+ Self Ignition; does auto light, but see "Cons" below
+ Large Base; able to stand very stably on its own which is handy when locked on for hands free use
+ Comfortable Grip; the large body is perfectly sized for medium to larger hands
+ Large Flame; has a good range of flame sizes, but lowest is still fairly high in comparison to other torches
+ Good Looking; this does not look cheap, which is good if using it in front of guests or customers (like we do)

Cons:
- No Fuel Window; not easy to tell how much fuel is in the torch
- Uses a lot more fuel than most of our other torches, but that is the trade off for the larger flame
- Not easy to figure out; the thumb safety needs to pressed down and left in place before pressing the ignition button and the flame adjustment is a ring on the nozzle

The dishes are nice but nothing special.

This tourch might be more than some people need, but it does work very well for our needs!

The torch works great! It does not come with butane, but you can pick up a cheap canister from the plumbing isle of most stores.

The ramekins are 2 ounces. I'd recommend just going with the torch by itself and buying larger ramekins separately.

I've use this torch for a long time, it gets the job done, but I reccomend to spend a couple extra $ to get a better torch.

1- doesn't light anymore, so I need a lighter to start it.
2 - leaks. so I have to fill it up a little each time I want to use it.
3 - top of it fell apart, and most of it is falling apart..
4 - the plastic melted..

but it is after many years of using it, it was good for the first year.. so it will get the job done.. but just a hassel. It still works which is why I still use it. But if I could go back, I'd rather spend a few extra bucks and get a better one..

When we received this product the torch was broken and the rammikens are different then what is pictured on the box. They seem to be much smaller and they are oval. Amazon is sending us a replacement so maybe we will have a better update when an unbroken torch comes in.

I wanted a torch last Thanksgiving as I was making sweet potato pie with marshmallow topping and I wanted to glaze the marshmallow topping. I decided to get this set simply because, for the same price of a torch by itself it came with a set of brulee dishes. I only really wanted the torches but for amusement I made some creme brulee and it was quite good. I have been torching everything now; my pie toppings, sugar crusts, banana flambe and my own skin! I am very happy I bought a torch and for those that like to cook and try new recipes I would definitely recommend getting a torch rather than using the broiler or a match. This torch worked fine for the job, being able to hold a flame at different angles and giving a good grip. For an average creme brulee recipe consisting of 2 cups of creme it would have been nice if they had offered an extra dish as the four offered dont quit leave enough room as I always have to get a small souffle dish and use that to fill up the excess. Aside from that one small issue, the set seems to be quite fine and fits the job.

bought this for my mom for christmas...she loves it. the torch works great. it's a little complicated to figure out the first time though.

this torch worked GREAT for a few weeks but then stopped lighting itself. now i have to use something to light it. you're better off getting a small propane torch from walmart for the same price. i don't recommend it.

LOve it butane torch it really makes the creme brulee otherwise I would have to broil them in the over,been needing the torch along time.
