Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

A charming gift for expectant parents, Oh Baby, the Places You'll Go is designed to be an in utero introduction to the wonderful world of Dr. Seuss. Adapted from his works, and touching on them all from Horton to Who-ville, author Tish Rabe has maintained Seuss's style perfectly. Your baby is the unnamed star of the book, and reading directly to your tummy becomes easy with lines like "the words I am saying you hear in your heart, and know that I wish you the very best start." Filled with the good doctor's whimsical illustrations, you'll find all your favorite characters, with a short rhyme that mentions each one--and just enough direct quotations to get those infants stimulated when you read Seuss's whole books to them at a later date. --Jill Lightner

5.0 out of 5 stars The best gift you can give expecting parents August 28, 2000
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
I received this book with my first pregnancy and have since given it to every single pregnant friend I know (I buy several at a time and save on shipping.) It is funny, perfectly Dr. Seuss, and fun to read to your thumping belly. Best of all, it is small, colorful, and embodies all the joy and anticipation you feel as you wait on your baby. And because it is Seuss, your older children can read it to their sibling-to-be.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Baby Shower Gift April 24, 2000
Format:Hardcover
Of all the gifts my wife and I received for our first baby, this was undoubtedly the best. Not only did it give me, a first time father, the chance to bond with our son, it gave both of us a great deal to think about as well. Today, a year later, I can't even think about this book without a tear coming to my eyes. I highly recommend it for any parents-to-be, and it truly makes a gift that will last a lifetime.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must-Have Primer to Dr. Seuss' Fanciful World February 7, 2003
Format:Hardcover
My mother gave me this book when I was pregnant with my first child. My husband and I read it frequently to our son (now 3) in utero. I have since purchased it for every expectant parent I know. If you love Dr. Suess, and are expecting, you must have this book.

The book is a short compilation of Dr. Suess favorites. It introduces the newcomer to all the imaginative characters of Dr. Seuss' creative mind. It's also great practice for parents-to-be to get back into the swing of reading aloud. The beauty of the book is in its rhythm and rhyming, which captivate the developing mind of a child. Our son who was read this book in utero is now a book fanatic and constantly makes up rhyming words. I believe this is a direct result of his exposure to this and other Seuss books.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book for the whole family July 13, 2000
Format:Hardcover
My husband read this book to our baby in utero during my first pregnancy. When I was pregnant with my second child, we read the book as a family to the new baby. My toddler loves the book and loved reading it to her new baby. This book has become a bedtime favorite.

They say we should start reading to baby before s/he's even born and this cute book is supposedly for doing just that. It's 1 or 2 paragraph snippets from varoius Dr. Suess classics. The rhyming verses bounce along simply and you'll know it by heart after 10 reads. Mommy to be says she can sometimes feel the baby move as I read to her belly. A cute baby book.

Format:Hardcover
This book was wonderful while I was pregnant! My husband read to our son every night before bed and as our son grew his responses to his father's voice grew. How amazing it was to see that connection being made before they could even see each other! My son will be one this month and he is still fascinated with books and our voices. This is a great addition to that big pile of pregnancy books you have next to the bed in anticipation of the big day!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Size does maters December 1, 2009
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
The book itself is one of the best kids books out there, but after opening the box and seeing it is actually a pocket size book, both my daughter and I were a little disappointed, yes mostly me because my daughter at the bookstore loved the book, nut at home when she got it she did not pay attention to it for more than a few minutes, where as when she gets regular size books she would be hunting for people to read it to.
It would be very helpful if there was a description specifying the tininess of it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic as well as emotional! August 15, 2000
Format:Hardcover
I received this book as a gift from a coworker when I was about 4 months pregnant. I have read it almost daily to my unborn child and I love the feeling it gives me to read it and know that my child is listening! I am almost 6 months pregnant, and with the baby kicking me constantly, I am reminded that he wants to hear his favorite book! I love the creativity within this book, the emotions it brings while reading it, and the idea that my child is reading already! It isn't expensive nor does it take all day to read. Highly recommended!
