4.0 out of 5 stars Not yaoi as of yet..
The story starts off with Yuto releasing a god from a sword that he had been bound into. The god doesn't remember anything about himself not even his name so Yuto names him Jade. The story progresses with Jade working at the house of Yuto's grandfather where Yuto lives with his mother and father. The story hasn't progressed to any kind of romantic nature much less yaoi at...

3.0 out of 5 stars Cute shounen-ai work
Oh My God! Is a part of the newest yaoi/shounen-ai line from Deux.

To begin, the book itself is not very thick (about 174 pages). Seeing that it is apart of a longer series (at least 2+ vols), it would have been nice to get more substance for my retail price of $12.95 (+tax). The pages are an odd shade of white-yellow, but still acceptable. The inking is...

3.0 out of 5 stars Cute shounen-ai work, August 14, 2008
This review is from: Oh My God! Volume 1 (Yaoi) (Oh My God! (Deux)) (Paperback)

The inking is very well done.

The plot can only be described as shounen-ai. (Why this work has an "Older Teen" rating is beyond me.) As the summary shows, Yuto's family was once powerful sorcerers, but now the family's power is fake. Then, one day Yuto accidentally releases a supposed god of destruction. The only problem is that the "God" doesn't remember anything about himself. Yuto names him Jade. Jade does have god-like powers such as being able to fly.

This said, the buddy-buddy friendship between the two is played out to hint at a deep and possible yaoi relationship. But this is where it ends - at hinting. For a yaoi fan, this work will do nothing more that tease you and leaving wondering when the work earns its rating. For everyone else, it is a cute shounen-ai work with lots of funny moments and good fast-paced story lines. Jade's rash and destructive moments earn quite a few laughs as well as his adaptation to modern living. Yuto's role is less entertaining. He plays the more down-to-earth, instructor role with some occasional moments that are very sweet.

Most of the works full storylines center on spirits that wander into Yuto's life. With Jade's help (and hints at Yuto's own power) the conflicts are easily resolved with brief brushes of tension.

Overall, Oh My God! is a quick but enjoyable read. Do not expect anything explicit or even some cute boy-on-boy kissing scenes. This work does nothing more than hint at a boy-on-boy relationship. Still, the work has plenty of humor, a good fast-paced storyline and is accompanied with beautiful art.

The story progresses with Jade working at the house of Yuto's grandfather where Yuto lives with his mother and father. The story hasn't progressed to any kind of romantic nature much less yaoi at the end, only a few blushes. There is a Volume 2 so maybe it will progress to that in that volume. Over all I liked the story itself but if your looking for anything of a graphic nature you might want to hold off.

3.0 out of 5 stars Volume 1 would have gotten 5 stars ... but read my WARNING about Vol.2, July 26, 2009

This review is from: Oh My God! Volume 1 (Yaoi) (Oh My God! (Deux)) (Paperback)
Wow! I liked volume 1 a lot. It's cute, humorous, easy-to-follow and even though there's no real love interest here, it DOES hold out the promise of a sweet, yaoi-like romance to come (at least of the more "innocent" sort). The characters, except perhaps for the grandfather, were all quite endearing. If this were a "stand alone" book unto itself, I would gladly give it 5 stars.

But now the warning:

Volume 2 was a HUGE disappointment. Amazon, in their sales listing for Volume 2, declares that it would conclude the series. If that's the case, it's a very up-in-the-air, open-ended confused mess of a conclusion. I don't know what went wrong in Volume 2 but the story truly lost its way and turned into nothing but convoluted dissonance. The vague but promising "hint" of romance in Volume 1 failed to find any fruition in the second volume - there was nothing the least bit gay or yaoi-like in the sequel. Even the characters (those whom I could identify as well as others who seemed to come out of nowhere) came across as less likable.

So, while Volume 1 is quite nice, why would you want to buy it knowing that the next volume was going to negate the entire experience?

5.0 out of 5 stars Inuyasha-ish?, January 19, 2010
This review is from: Oh My God! Volume 1 (Yaoi) (Oh My God! (Deux)) (Paperback)
Is it me or does this manga seem like 'what if Inuyasha lived with Kagome in the present?' Jade seems like Inuyasha to me. Seriously. And the boy seems like a male Kagome. Especially how he manages to keep Jade under control. When the other god that shows up starts calling him a 'mongrel' I almost spit my cherry coke out.

I'm still giving this 5 stars because the concept of a yaoi-ish Inuyasha is a good one, all I'm saying is this is very Rumiko Takahashi-ish. That's a good thing in my book! But really uncanny!

I really like the art, especially how Jade's hair is drawn. It's uber-sexy while still letting him look like a wild child.
