More About the Author

"A person's a person, no matter how small," Theodor Seuss Geisel, a.k.a. Dr. Seuss, would say. "Children want the same things we want. To laugh, to be challenged, to be entertained and delighted."

Brilliant, playful, and always respectful of children, Dr. Seuss charmed his way into the consciousness of four generations of youngsters and parents. In the process, he helped millions of kids learn to read.

Dr. Seuss was born Theodor Geisel in Springfield, Massachusetts, on March 2, 1904. After graduating from Dartmouth College in 1925, he went to Oxford University, intending to acquire a doctorate in literature. At Oxford, Geisel met Helen Palmer, whom he wed in 1927. Upon his return to America later that year, Geisel published cartoons and humorous articles for Judge, the leading humor magazine in America at that time. His cartoons also appeared in major magazines such as Life, Vanity Fair, and Liberty. Geisel gained national exposure when he won an advertising contract for an insecticide called Flit. He coined the phrase, "Quick, Henry, the Flit!" which became a popular expression.

Geisel published his first children's book, And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street, in 1937, after 27 publishers rejected it.

Winner of the Pulitzer Prize in 1984, an Academy Award, three Emmy Awards, three Grammy Awards, and three Caldecott Honors, Geisel wrote and illustrated 44 books. While Theodor Geisel died on September 24, 1991, Dr. Seuss lives on, inspiring generations of children of all ages to explore the joys of reading.

At first I thought this book was a bit pricy for a kids book...until we received it and wow! The pop ups are some of the best I've seen. The story line is familiar, yet the pop ups add a lot. Good for any age, small child, graduate or anyone who might need a emotional boost. Well worth the money.

I chose this beautiful pop up version of this classic book to create a memory book/guest book for my son's college graduation party. All of the guests at the party wrote a personal message in the book, many on pages that had names or situations that matched them. The result is a precious keepsake of his very significant milestone woven within the wonderful message of this beloved classic from Dr. Seuss.

This product was not what I expected. Pictured is a large hard cover version of the book. I received a very small sized version and I don't think this book was worth what I paid for it. I was disappointed because I had planned to give this as a gift. This was the first children's book I've purchased and now I will be more cautious about buying children's books online.

Usually an 'anniversary edition' of anything rendered as a pop up is a cautionary signal to collectors and roughly translates as 'quick, shoddy attempt to cash in on the passing of time.' Happily that's not the case with this wonderful Dr Seuss pop up. The illustrations are true to the author's original work. David A Carter's brilliant transformation of these greatly loved drawings into pop ups is a joy. Dr Seuss's timeless story about the great adventure that awaits all children as the move towards adulthood is enhanced by the clever and sensitive paper engineering that incorporates all of the whimsy and humour for which this author is famous. A wonderful addition to a collection but it would be a shame to keep in on the shelf. This is a book that should be read and re-read to children. Like all pop ups, the book would require adult supervision of small children to prevent damage, but an older child will relish this gorgeous book. If you've got a reluctant reader in the family this book could be a magic key; the pop ups make it less of a 'book' and more of a 'game' and Dr Seuss's wonderful prose is easy and engaging.

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my 4 year old daughter. I like to surround her with amazing, positive material. We came across this book at the local library and it meant so much for me while I read it to her.

I wanted to order it and came across the pop-up edition. This edition captures the essence of Dr.Seuss and is fun to read to your child. The content in the book is so amazing, and the book comes to life with the crazy pop-ups.

Side Note: I will however say for my 4 year old this book is very stimulating, she constantly wants to touch everything in the book, and the pop-up material is sturdy, but can be easily torn and so on. I will try my best to keep this book in good condition, so she can cherish it throughout her life!

In 2024, God willing, my daughter will graduate from high school, and I will present this book to her signed by all of her teachers from throughout the years. When it arrived I was extremely pleased. The book was in perfect condition and the pop up illustrations are beautiful. Parents be aware that small hands could easily damage the intricate artwork, so adult guidance is a must.

This is a treasure - the high school seniors that I gave it to all loved it! It is not for little hands, but a wonderful FUN gift for someone special who is graduating. I ordered 5 and had to order 2 more and still ran short. For the price, I don't know of many things that are more unique.

I bought this book as a gift to my daughter when she graduates college in 12 years. My daughter is in Kindergarten right now and a mom shared with me the idea of having the teacher at each grade level sign the book every year. Then give the signed book to your child when he/she graduates from college.

I gave this book 4 stars instead of 5 because I feel that while the pop ups are cute however they aren't made very sturdy and I worry if they will hold for the next 12 years. Sometimes I have to pull or tug very hard to get something to move. There are some pages where the pop ups were falling over and didn't stand correctly. Still I think this is the best book offered on amazon and I enjoy using my free Prime to buy items. AND YOU CAN'T GO WRONG WITH THIS WONDERFUL STORY!
