5.0 out of 5 stars If you can't buy all their albums.. get this one.
Amazing songs. Nothing real "deep". But what was in the 80s? A lot of fun for sure, this is what you pull out for a soundtrack when you're woman is over =] LONG TIME COMING has several songs not included on this album that should have been. Noone writes a slow love song like Ready for the World.

My top 10 fave artists are from the "rock" genre.. but...

3.0 out of 5 stars Another Prince/Time imitation, gets in the One Hit Wonder Hall Of Fame
Jheri curls and ballads were their forté. Also doin' their very best to sound like either Prince and/or The Time or other bands like them. But the ballads they ruled, but not without sounding like another Prince/Time imitation. Dreamboy, The Deele.

Nevertheless, RFTW is in here. Funk, slow songs, whatever. The One-Hit Wonder happens to be the name of...

5.0 out of 5 stars READY FOR THE WORLD, September 4, 2001
This review is from: Oh Sheila: Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
I've always been a fan of ready for the world. Every time I get a chance to listen to their music on the radio. Sometimes I would get in the mood (if you know what I mean lol) They need to have a reunion or something. Much love to ya.
c.c.

despite having a very strong michael jackson&prince influence in there music this band was able to groove during the 80's and maintain there juice. oh shelia is still the jam and i've always dug long time coming.and they were self-contained unit did there own writting and producing.

3.0 out of 5 stars Another Prince/Time imitation, gets in the One Hit Wonder Hall Of Fame, February 6, 2009

The One-Hit Wonder happens to be the name of this greatest hits disc, OH SHEILA. "Oh Sheila" is the only song hitting big for RFTW in the pop world. Just like The Deele, if it wasn't for "Oh Sheila", they had mad ballads to back-up any fall. "Tonight" was their debut R&B hit followed by the new wave funk of "Digital Display". As "Deep Inside Your Love", "Love You Down" and "Slide Over" seduce you, "Gently" sounds like the only real ballad here while the others just remind me of another artist singing instead of Melvin Riley Jr. "My Girly" is the shocker here. After Spike Lee dissed RFTW in his movie SCHOOL DAZE about the jheri curls, RFTW got rid of them by their 3rd album RUFF AND READY and they changed their sound and image to a more hip-hop/funk thang. "My Girly" was the result. Nice. But too late.

4 albums, some bands don't last that long but it's been an interesting ride for RFTW. 15 minutes of fame on a 4-minute song, baby-making music. Variety but mostly imitation, this 6 man band made good actors. Wouldn't you say so, Spike Lee?

5.0 out of 5 stars ...love, love,LOVE Ready For The World, October 5, 2001

I've loved this group since I was a little girl (had a HUGE crush on Melvin Riley!)! 'Digital Display' was my favorite song of theirs for a looong time. 'Straight Down to Business' was the last good dance track I liked. I met the guys in '92-they were sweethearts! Wish that I could get my hands on their videos, though...

4.0 out of 5 stars These guys made great ballads, February 26, 2004

My goodness, some music from the 80's did not age well. Ready for the World is guilty on several charges. 15 years later, their uptempo chart hits like "Digital Display" and "Mary Goes Round" sound absolutely ridiculous.

That aside, Ready for the World fared much better when they did what they do best: Ballads. "Tonight" is magnificent, this is a slow jam if there ever was one! These guys harmonize, the beats, albeit SLOW beats, are funky and fit the mood correctly. Same thing with "Love You Down" and "Deep Inside Your Love". My suggestion: buy it for the slow jams, dim the lights, and enjoy...
