3.0 out of 5 stars Decent Entry into the Pop/Punk Genre
What do you get when you mix vocals from Relient K, songs from Everday Sunday, some tight bandwork and a purple rhino? Well, I suppose that would be this album from Philmont that doesn't scream original or genre changing but is at the very least, enjoyable.

I'll admit, I listened to this EP once, and I haven't been compelled to do so since. Is that because I...

I am a Christian and I love alternative rock music but I don't often listen to Christian rock because I grew up in the 80s and back then, with the exception of a very few bands, it was awful.

It has gradually gotten better over the past decade and it's great to see new bands like Philmont who can create excellent music and vocals that can stand alongside the secular greats.

This album was very impressive -- it's got several lovely tunes, great vocals and harmonies and some nice piano playing and guitar riffs. The lyrics are thoughtful, too. A few of the tunes are a little frantic and poppy and there's a bit too much synthesizer for my taste, but overall I was very pleased. My 15 year old son likes it even better than I do and he takes the CD to play at his youth group meetings.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than I expected. Good for Christian punk-rock., September 19, 2009

First of all, I really liked the 80s looking CD cover and the title "Oh Snap". Even before I started listening to the CD, I had this expectation that the songs would be a little more playful and fun than usual Christian music. I wasn't mistaken. These guys sound like they enjoy what they are doing and having fun with some punk-inspired music. It's hard to say that it is punk-rock, but I would say it is punk-inspired pop music. The lyrics are mostly uplifting, but not too cheesy. If you are into Christian music and looking for something different within that area, I recommend picking this album up.

4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining, June 15, 2009

I do appreciate some good Christian rock. I would more rank this closer to "decent" than "good." It starts off great with their first track, "I can't stand to fall," but everything else sounds like all the Christian Rock out there... which isn't necessarily a bad thing. But, other than the first song in my opinion, there isn't anything groundbreaking about this music.

If you like Christian Rock, pick this up. I don't think you'll regret it. Just don't expect to be blown away.

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT Christian Rock cd. My 8 yr old loves it so much he made this his own., June 13, 2009

If you like a beat you will like this cd. A couple of the songs have a slow beat but still a good beat. Listen to the preview before you buy.

I beg to differ with other reviewers. Each song is different in it's own way. Philmont has a great sound and several of these songs have a great dance beat. My 8 yr old loved My Hippocratic Oath the best, and ask if he could keep this cd for his own. Since his 9th birthday coming up, this is gonna be a birthday present.

These guys have that Reliant K, All-American Rejects sound. This album has really catchy songs like "I Can't Stand to Fall" & "Another Name" that have that driving, in your face rock feel. Then there's their more lyrical side like in the second track "The Difference". I like how they effectively have those 2 sides. It's difficult to find bands that can do both in your face & lyrical. To have an edgier, punk rock band that has songs with deep, God centered lyrics is always refreshing to find.

this cd is perfect, it is new original, and christan based. What more could you ask for. This band is simply amazing, and this bad deserves more recognition.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
The albumn OH SNAP by Philmont has some good music, although much of it is very similar. I would have liked to see a little variety in the tempo. The lyrics and the beat are uplifting and catchy. All in all, a nice addition to your music collection, but nothing spectacular.

Not quite my kind of thing, religious rock. but the music did get the kids to dance, and beat was reasonable. If you like religious pop music you might like this better than we did.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really good, September 23, 2009
This review is from: Oh Snap (Audio CD)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
Philmont is an American Christian Rock band that has been around since 2006. Oh Snap is their third album, and it shows that the band has captured a manicured, professional-quality sound. Oh Snap has a mere six tracks, but the six tunes are very good Christian rock, with a great sound and great thoughts behind the music.

I got this album for a young Christian that I know, and she really enjoyed it, finding the Philmont sound to be really good. So, if you want some really good contemporary Christian music then check out this album. We don't think that you will be disappointed!
