5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful renditions of some of Chaplin's finest melodies, January 16, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Oh That Cello (Audio CD)
Few people think "composer" when they hear the name Charlie Chaplin, but this disc serves as a good sampling of some of his musical work. Even if you aren't a fan of his movies, there's a lot to like here. The music is quite beautiful and needs no context at all to be enjoyable. I would have liked to have seen more informative liner notes (ie, linking songs to the movie for which they were originally composed), but that's not worth docking a star over. All in all, a great starting point for new Chaplin fans, and a necessity for old ones.

5.0 out of 5 stars Chaplin's Songs, October 16, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Oh That Cello (Audio CD)
I was aware that Chaplin wrote music long before I was able to find a recording, other than standard film cuts, that featured the instrument Chaplin played. These selections are performed with feeling without overstatement, which is consistent with my perception of Chaplin's artistic expression. I was a bit disappointed that some songs that I was led to believe appeared on an original issue of this performance were not included on this CD. Also,I would have liked to see more informative liner notes. These are minor criticisms compared to the thrill of finding this CD at all!

5.0 out of 5 stars A rainy day, November 17, 2005
This review is from: Oh That Cello (Audio CD)
I was in orcgestra for about five years middle school to sophomore in highschool, and even though i quit orchestra I retained a love for classical music. so needless to say, one day while driving in the rain, I was listening to the local classical music station, but not really paying much attention. But then this song came on and when first listening to it, I instruments were not synchronized at all, and therefore started paying attention, complaining to myself about how bad this song was, and then as if an angel whispered into my ears the entire song came together, and I fell in love. The voice on the radio told me that the songs name was "bombay" and that the composer was charlie chaplin, which suprised me, because all I ever had heard of, from charlie chaplin, was silent films. So, I searched around for a while, and couldn't find the cd in any of the cd stores that I went to, and eventually gave up looking. then about two years later I remembered a song that I had loved and began my quest to find the cd. well, I found it, finally, and I must say that it is the greatest cd that I have ever bought. Every single track picks me up like a leaf in the wind and I just go where it takes me. to me, it is by far the best classical music that I have ever heard. So, I hope you'll not miss this oppurtunity and get hold of this cd. I bought two more copies recently, from a store other than amazon, to send to some friends in japan, and according to the store, the cd is out of print, and they only had four copies left before I bought the two.
