This is a great little book. The stories will make you think of your friends and family, and also wonder about evolution and if it really works right. Its chapters are short and sweet and enjoyable! If you dont laugh while reading this book, you need some serious help!!!!! Its not for small children but preteens will enjoy it even, as will grandparents and all in between!

We always try to keep a copy or 2 on hand for our guests to read each year at our B&B, the Kenai River Hideaway B&B, and they all get a good laugh going.

Most books can be better and that's why I gave it four stars. I know Bob so I got the smiles and laughs before the writing actually pulled it out of me. Funny tales of what could have been preparations for burials in Alaska. Most Alaska pilots I know have crashed at least once when they ran out of altitude, air speed, and ideas at the same time. Crashes, bears, high water, freezing climate--all contribute to these fun tales and you know he didn't die because he wrote the book. It is a top seller in Alaska. Try it, you'll like it too. Being an avid outdoorsman myself, and having had several very similar adventures with my best friend, albeit not in Alaska, I love this book. In fact, I have sent a copy to my best friend, and ordered the 2nd book for myself. If this book doesn't cause you to roll on the floor, laughing so hard that you physically hurt, then you have never had a true "adventure" in the outdoors. OMG, I would love to meet this guy! and spent some time with him out in Alaska. I have not read a more entertaining book in so many years... Not only does he do a great job describing the characters, and I use that term to mean their qualities, not just that they exist; he descriptive writing ability drew me right into the planes, lakes, and forests of Alaska, right there at his side. This is a definite "must have" book for anyone who considers themselves an outdoors person!

I bought this book in the Anchorage Airport on a stopover to China. It is great and I stopped reading my other books in order to finish it. It is funny and witty and gives the feeling of living in Alaska, even if one has never been there. I even enjoy his numerous hunting stories, even though I have never been (and never want to be) hunting. It is a collection of short stories (something I also usually don't like) describing real life experiences hunting, fishing and living in Alaska. One keeps wondering when his luck is going to run out, but it never seems to.

Bob has captured what many of us have thought during our misadventures over the years....we're all pretty well out of our element compared to the critters who live by the rules of survival in the wilderness on a daily basis. Throw in a healthy dose of testosterone and perhaps a beer or more, and men can come up with all kinds of ways to humiliate themselves....though we rarely admit those embarrassing moments as Bob has so eloquently in this book. Prepare to laugh out loud!

I hated it. The main reason that bears came into camp and were killed in this book was the hunter's pure carelessness. Right from the beginning the author also demonizes wolves. It is a shame that the author has served on the Alaska Board of Game. You can read more for yourselves here: http://www.adn.com/article/bob-bell-tells-tales-his-hunting-violations

This book basically chronicles Bob's hunting violations. I want my money back.

This was an easy read of many short stories that happened to or the author heard of taking place in the Alaskan wilderness. As a backpacker that has seen less severe situations on the east coast I find the stories credible. For those that have no clue what the outdoors is truly like they may think differently but over many decades the stories stack up.

This book is full of really, really funny, down to earth stories. I mean, *really* funny. If you have spent time in the north country (Alaska, Yukon, NWT, Nunavut, etc.) you will be able to relate to many of these tales. I found myself laughing out loud as I read some chapters.
