Editorial Reviews

This set spotlights the Canadian artists who were Juno Award Winners and also puts the spotlight on some of the nominees. Disc 1 features the first 10 years of the awards while the latter 3 discs are dedicated to the first years of the 21st Century, showcasing a variety of artists and songs representing many genres! Canadian music fans made the first two 'Oh What A Feeling' sets released in 1996 & 2001 respectively, sell tremendously well.

This is a good, solid, collection of tracks from Canadian artists. This is the third volume in this series. Unfortunately, there is a modest amount of track overlap with the first two collections, but what's here--if you ignore that fact--is mostly good. Amazon's track information is incomplete (no artists). Here's the full track listing with artists:

DISC 1
Rush - Closer To The Heart
Bachman-Turner Overdrive - Hey You
Heart - Dreamboat Annie
The Stampeders - Sweet City Woman
Burton Cummings - My Own Way To Rock
Nick Gilder - Hot Child In The City
Lighthouse - Pretty Lady
The Guess Who - Hand Me Down World
Terry Jacks - Seasons In The Sun
Streetheart - Under My Thumb
Bruce Cockburn - One Day I Walk
Murray McLauchlan - Farmer's Song
Dan Hill - Sometimes When We Touch
Edward Bear - Last Song
The Poppy Family - Which Way You Goin' Billy ?
Anne Murray - Snowbird
Paul Anka - (You're) Having My Baby
Patsy Gallant - From New York To L.A.

Juno that this is the 3rd Cd in a series. I own the 25th, and 30th as well. The music, if you are coming into this on the 35th Cd is top notch for the most part. It is wonderful for Canadians to celebarte canadian music thru a fabulous 4 cd box set. But for those of us that came on board ten years ago, the repetative nature of this set is worrisome and disappointing.

Juno, you can't argue with great songs like "SNOWBIRD" & "FARMER SONG" but these showed up on previous JUNO box sets. Maybe Murray Mclaghlin does not have other Juno-worthy songs to include on this box set, but why repeat something that already appears on the original, 25th showcase? Surely Canada loggest lasting pop export, Anne Murrey, has more popular Juno gems to share with the world beyond the wonderful song of a bird in snow. Even a live version of a classic would be better than putting "SEASON IN THE SUN" on a second Juno package, n'est ce pas? How about honouring someone like Tara Maclean or the brilliant Kathleen Edwards, eh? Pinch Me!

If you could read my mind, you'd know I think it is a good idea to hear '80s rockers, STREETHEART make an appearance. Sure covering the STONES might not be the most original thing to do, but at least they made the grade. How about more CHILLIWACK people? And a different song from LIGHTHOUSE was a nice touch, so Canada, juno you have it in you. To me the most fun is hearing the one hit wonders and lesser knows you forgot or can't find elsewhere, than another cut by RUSH (no disrespect meant to Rush). So bring on VALDY and IAN THOMAS ... and Canada's answer to Vanilla Ice: SNOW (would that make Snow, Northern Ice or Fros-T)?

Juno that about half of the 1st CD is repeated on the other volumes in the series. Too bad they are great songs but not required on this volume.

5 Stars for the music but docked a star for not respected the audience that is buying these very type of Juno box set.

Most of the music on this CD was great listening for me but one of the four CD's was too hard rock for me. I had to give that one to my 20ish daughter. I was quite happy that each of the CD's featured certain styles of music so that I could easily gift away the one I didn't like. If all those tunes were mixed amongst the 4 CD's I wouldn't have been able to give it away to someone who appreciated it more than I did.
