One of the joys of living in Los Angeles is having the chance to see Billy Vera and the Beaters live over a piping baked potato in an intimate venue. Billy's songs are always honest and you feel you are sharing his life. The Beaters, and particularly the spectacular sax work of Ron Viola, Lon Price, and Jerry Peterson, accent the man's words and take the songs to the next level. This album, as well as the earlier By Request, faithfully recreates the experience. Oh What a Nite was recorded live, and it lives and breathes and bares the soul of an artist who may watch too many soap operas but who never lets us down.

Listening to Billy Vera and the Beaters live is hearing them at their best. The songs range from mirth to melancholy and the musical quality of the Beaters never fails to astound me. In an age where everything is marketing and politics Billy is and has always been a straight shooter. Be one of the few to find this gem in today's music market.
