Doodle Doug, not so "doodly",
By
This review is from: Doodle Doug (Toy)
this was on my daughter's birthday wish list. i bought it for her and have been disappointed with it. it's a cute idea and works ok...but it only comes with three markers which ran out of ink after the first time she used it. the openings to hold markers are so small that i have had a hard time finding replacement markers. i found markers that are thin to fit in the holes but they don't fit tightly so when you turn him on to doodle his doodling skips and is uneven. disappointing toy.

Doodle Doug = cute, but not too impressed.,

My 5 yr-old daughter, who loves crafts, picked this item out for her birthday. It is a cute toy, however, she lost interest very quickly. You MUST make sure the markers are pushed in securely so the ink can create the pattern. Since it only came with three markers we tried other markers at home but no other markers would stay in. Any clue where to purchase more colors for this item, or even replacements? For the stamps, I would suggest using ink pads rather than trying to color the bottom of the shoes. Overall, cute item but not too impressed.

Fun, but need more supplies,
By

Our children found this item very fun, but the reviewers commenting on supplies are correct--after the pens run out, seem to need to find exactly the same size. Curiously, found replacement pen form on the Crayola UK site.
However, these don't seem to be available in the US. Why? Mystery.

Waste of money,

My 3 year old daughter wanted this because she saw it on TV. She played with it the day we brought it home and hasn't asked for it since. The pens were hard to fit in, the foot stamps didn't really work well, either. We made a big page of drawings on some newsprint paper and then after the pens ran dry because she forgot to cap them, and I have no idea if replacements are even sold. Later that day we just forgot about him being a drawing toy and just played with him as if he was a big plastic bug. Now he's back in the box. I wish I would have saved my money and bought a drawing board or maybe a nice Spirograph. I always try to avoid gimmicky toys like these but it seems I can't quite ever learn the lesson.

Great toy -- my kids love it,
This review is from: Doodle Doug (Toy)
My girls (4 & 7) love this -- it is easy for them to use and they are thrilled with the different kinds of designs they can make in many different colors. The markers that come with it run out VERY quickly, but the Crayola Classic Fine markers work great and I picked those up at Wal-mart. It is also useful to have larger paper like a floor pad as an 8.5X11 sheet of paper is not always big enough. Again -- the larger paper is at Walmart in the same section as the markers. The paper does have to lay perfectly flat for Doug to spin properly. Overall a great toy as it doesn't take up much space to store and requires very little setup/cleanup.

fun and cute!,

My granddaughter wanted this for her birthday, so of course, I had to buy it for her. She really liked it! But I did find that she went outside the lines of the paper on certain patterns. Easy solution! I put down an old newspaper under the drawing sheet and had no further problems. She made and colored up lots of different patterns and plans on handing them out as presents on Thanksgiving.

Boys Age 6&7 LOVE It,
By
This review is from: Doodle Doug (Toy)
When my soon to be 6 yr old wanted this, I thought, Oh Now, another $15 piece of junk. I got it for him after a month of him never forgetting he wanted it.
2 minutes out of the box, both he and his 7 yr old brother (both who have completely different tastes in toys and ideas of fun) were on thier bellys on the floor playing with the thing. The first 3 days straight, they did nothing but play with Doodle Doug and his stamps. 2 weeks later they still love him but the markers have gone dry. I WILL find more. As for how it works! They've used appx 40 pages of my printer paper. Each one they fiddled with the button on the bottom and have made completely different designs with it. I did not see "messy" designs. I didn't find that the pens skipped or looked bad at all. They look pretty close to the Spirograph pictures of old to me. Nice patterns in different shapes. This is my 1st review as far as I can remember, that's how impressed I was with this $15 toy. This is the first toy that actually DOES what the commercial showed AND my boys BOTH love it. (Also have a 13 yr old daughter who tinkers with it!) As for the "messy lines" people say it puts out (guess I was lucky, ours makes great lines and patterns), while I wouldn't care what it looked like, isn't the idea of toys for the kids to ENJOY it? Not to make masterpieces? So, I give it 2 thumbs up for Price, keeping the kids attention for more then 5 minutes (I've tossed many a $50+ toy that ended up being JUNK) and for...OH JOY...actually doing what the commercial says it will!

Chaotic toy,
This review is from: Doodle Doug (Toy)
This toy seemed like a fun idea, however it is utter chaos. The toy moves randomly over the page and does not make any sort of comprehensive design. Actually our table received more ink than the paper and then the kids could not get it to turn off. I think it may be slightly posessed!

Cute and Fun,

My 5 year old daughter received this as a present. It works well and is great fun. If you have a large roll of paper, such as banner paper, lay it out and then start experimenting.
Rachel has turned Doodle Doug's creations into flowers, cards to send to people, and art for her room. It is easy to turn on and off and we have tried other markers and pencils, although not all work well. Replacement markers should be made available. This is not a does-it-all toy, but great for what it does and inspires some level of creativity.

Very Pleased with Doodle Doug,

This is the one thing my 5 year old had asked for at christmas--it looked very cheap and I didn't think that it would work. I was wrong---it works very well. She needs help using it but it makes beautiful designs and she finds all the movement very entertaining...I would get this as a birthday present for a 5-8 year old girl.
