I bought the Etch A Sketch for my 2 year old grandson thinking he would have fun watching the lines being drawn on the screen. The Etch A Sketch I remember as a child had a strong, thick, dark line when I drew on it. I could easily tell where I was and where I wanted to go.The line on this new Etch A Scetch is barely visible! I can hardly see it myself. My grandson was unimpressed and almost immediately lost interest. And like another reviewer mentioned, what line you do have won't shake out! What a disappointment! I should have purchased him another Savings Bond. Next time I will shop retail so I can try it out first hand.

I was a lonely child, and we didn't have video games back then. And there were only 5 channels on the television. Really. I am telling the truth about that.Which means there was plenty of time in my childhood to perfect utterly useless skills, like writing in cursive on an Etch A Sketch. I was good at it. I could draw perfect circles, and lacy valentine hearts, and landscapes with cows. My kids have none of these skills. They kick my butt at video games. So I bought an Etch A Sketch in self defense. Boy, were they impressed when I whipped out a picture of Spiderman. They will never be able to do that. None of them. They don't have the attention span it takes to learn how to control a cursor using two little wheels. So I win at this. It may be the only thing I ever win at when playing with my kids. They do everything else better than me. But I win at this!

Once again, they do not make toys like they used to. My daughter opened this for Christmas, and I showed her how to draw. The line barely showed up, and was hardly noticeable. Trying to keep her attention since the faint lines did not impress, I thought I could excite her by shaking it to erase...Oh but it didn't erase...maybe I need to shake it some more...maybe shake it a little harder??...Nope, it left the lines even with vigorous shaking. It is now in a return box. I will not be buying it again or asking for a replacement. I wish I still had my old Etch a Sketch to give her! I am rating the fun factor low too, because it is more frustrating than fun. If it actually worked properly, I could rate this much higher.

Great gift - great for the car, the couch, the hospital bed . . .wont break unless you bring it in the tub (dont do that) Not great for kids who are accustomed to video games and TV. But great for kids who know how to play without electronics.

My Kids love etch-a-sketch, but the two we bought were broken right out of the box. You could not see the drawings, they were too faint. We returned them and Amazon honored the return right away.

Since I had bought this particular item for my granddaughter for her 5th birthday, I asked her. She said she really liked it and enjoyed making pretty designs. My kids had an etch-a-sketch when they were younger and it was one of the most used toys they owned. This could be why they are still around today.

I ordered 2 of these for my grandchildren because I had so much fun with them growing up. I was disappointed because they are smaller than they used to be and the lines you draw are too fine. They don't erase as easily either. I would love to find the original etch a sketch but I'm afraid that doesn't exist anymore.

This is just a note to say that I hope everyone who is reading these reviews looks closely to see that the reviewer HAS ACTUALLY PURCHASED THE ITEM! Apparently a lot of old people have time on their hands to write reviews of products they had as a child. THIS IS NOT THE ETCH-A-SKETCH OF 50 YEARS AGO! It is not helpful to write a review of a 50-year old product when people are trying to decide what to buy today.I, too, was excited for my child to receive the Etch-A-Sketch for Christmas this year. (Yes, we actually received THIS PRODUCT!) Unfortunately, this item is defective and should not be purchased by anyone. As reviewed by several others WHO ACTUALLY OWN THIS PRODUCT, the lines are too faint AND DON'T EVEN ERASE. This is a complete piece of junk and a waste of your money! No child will play with this new version of the Etch-A-Sketch. Did you understand that IT DOESN'T ERASE! I wish I had ordered mine from Amazon, so I could return it, but we got it for a gift. After this review, I plan to contact the manufacturer and demand a refund. Or perhaps they have another product that works. But this one does not.

This model is a lot smaller than the origional. Works the same. The word classic in its descriptoin is misleading.

Some of the other reviewers were right, the toy we received drew lines so faint you have to go back over them. Very disappointed.
