This is one of the best and well rounded electro albums I've heard in a while. For the most part it holds a pretty good consistency from start to finish... for me the crowner being "Oh!" which I can't seem to get enough of.
It's packed with a lot of raw energy and solid beats. Sometimes it can get repetitive, but as a whole I think it's really well done and the type of thing that DJs should be spinning at clubs. It's a really original sound that never lets up... he's already remixed artists like Depeche Mode, Marilyn Manson, Bloc Party, and others... he's definitely going to hit the scene really big soon. I'm not sure what else to say... it's a great album. Probably one of the best electro albums in the past few years.

between mstrkrft & justice spectrum,
This review is from: Oi Oi Oi (Audio CD)
when I listened to boys noize after reading a positive review about them, esp the first 3 tracks, I felt that it was too much like justice but w/o weird/odd/corny overdubs[ie "let there be light"] that justice likes to use.
SO the question is whether to buy this to listen to more buzz synths & robot voices if you have justice & when MSTRKRFT so masterfully shown how to use buzz synths in a pop or structured way that is so much fun... Luckily for BN, someone lent me their CD & I listened to it more on a leisurely basis & was blown away by the remix "my moon, my man" & "I-robot" even w/ vocals are in german. Now I dig tracks like "Oh, & down & Lava, lava". BN is a real good case study to compare mstrkrft's vs justice's approach. Mstrkrft constructs pop songs using only instrumentals & robot voices..it may look easy but it's not[hard to create compelling hooks that are short & sweet]. Justice, on the other hand, does more breakbeats & layers them to the point where the song is sinking under the weight of too many riffs/beats trying to hang on. But justice REALLY knows how to play funk bass which seems to be their sound/hook. That's how I came to like it eventually BN uses a more conventional approach to song structure ie ravel's bolero version where a beat/hook is steadyly built on. It can be boring but if used more to build a song,then it is very effective ie "my moon, my man" & a song NOT on this album, "feel good tv off", which was a beautiful, melodic song that really moved me. I think BN has talent..they should study mstrkrft/old chemical bros's approach to creating songs using buzz synths & look less to justice. But it should be obvious from my above paragraphs that you have to get MSTRKRFT's the looks if you have not[see my review of it]. Also people who liked Daft Punk's human after all album will be able to enjoy this.

At first I really only enjoyed a couple of songs on the CD, lucky for me they were some awesome tracks, so I kept playing the CD. The other tracks finally grew on me and I can say that I enjoy the CD a lot more on a whole now.

You know how everyone who doesn't enjoy dance music says it's repetitive and uncreative? Well this album is a perfect example of just that. As a DJ I've become very particular about what's considered good dance music and what isn't. Now I'm not saying that Boys Noize (terrible name, terrible album cover) is bad, it just isn't anything you haven't heard before. On this release you'll hear it more times than you need to. Nearly all the tracks on this album are too long, terribly repetitive and quite honestly rather grating. The groove in many of the songs is almost there but then just fails to deliver. All the retro arcade sounds, robot voices, distorted digital guitar and vocoder effects just can't save this album from mediocrity. These tracks are good for about 1-2 minutes tops in between or with other mixing but that's about it. My track ratings;
1. & Down 7/10 2. Lava Lava 6/10 3. The Battery 5/10 4. Oh 7/10 5. Let's Buy Happiness 7/10 6. Arcade Robot 6/10 7. Deny Selected 3/10 8. Shine Shine 5/10 9. Vergiftet 6/10 10. Superfresh 6/10 11. Wu-Tang (The Battery pt.2) 4/10 12. Don't Believe the Hype 6/10 13. Frau 9/10 (I really liked this track, most likely because I've heard used repeatedly in Justice sets) 14. My Moon My Man 2/10 Boys Noize please step away from the vocoder and retro sound effects and try to put a little less generica into your tracks. The potential for some amazing tracks is there but never seems to come to fruition. The whole release feels like a failed attempt to emulate Justice, which in this instance there's no comparison.

Boys Noize - dirty electro house?,
This review is from: Oi Oi Oi (Dig) (Audio CD)
dirty electro house... the closest i can come to describing the genre of boys noize. I would say if you like Justice, MSTRFRFT (esp. fist of god), and especially digitalism, you will most likely enjoy this album.
If you like Justice, be sure to check out the remixes of Phantom by boys noize. These guys are endorsed and played by major players including steve aoki, mstrkrft, proxy, feadz, justice, etc [go to a club; ever heard of it?]. I'm sure you probably heard of them from a club or something if you're reading this; but trust me, these guys are awesome and have more to deliver than just oi oi oi or &down. Also, check out their remix album, their new album (Power), and if nothing else, definitely the I robots - frau (boyz noise rmx). peace out, -spencer ps. all i do is party, HA HA HA HA :D

I saw Boys Noize play after MSTRKRFT & I thought he totally blew away MSTRKRFT which played a horrible 'sissy' ie house music set, maybe bec it was house music club.
But Alex Ridha did not compromise but played his high-energy metal-sounding dance music even thought 80%-90% of the crowd couldn't dance to it. Fine by me as I had an awesome time at 4am in the morning til 6am which is when he went on. Totally saved the night considering the lame house music being played before 4am. BN also used a mixing board to play his DJ set vs laptop like the Chemical Bros does in their shows. Makes the mixing more special... You rock, Alex..

this group lives up to its name,

noise ( noize ) is the best way to describe this same level electronic attempt. The songs all sound the same and the noize that is selected are weak sounds in my opinion which makes the patterns sound even weaker. Total waste of money. But I will say that this group has inspired me to produce music again. If they can make an album then I don't have anything to worry about. Considering that boys noize actually has people that like their material. oi oi oi ...?!
