3.0 out of 5 stars Holidays Bad? Vandals Good.
A decent addition to any holiday music library for those with a sense of humor. Every song must be taken tongue-in-cheek and should be considered unsafe for work or holiday parties with children present. Songs like Thanx for nothing and A gun for christmas are excellent parodies; and Hanging myself from the tree and Christmas time for my... are strangely emotional ballads while maintaining a high level of humor. The whole thing ends with a beautifully orchestrated instrumental medley that shows just how hard the band worked on this one. If you must own one Vandals album... or one Christmas album, let this be the one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Punk Rock Christmas Cheer, December 26, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Oi to the World (Audio CD)
This CD is extremely amuzing. With songs like "Grandpa's last Christmas" and "My First Christmas as a Woman" who can go wrong?!? The songs are not only funny, but very cool too. My favorites are "Oi to the World" (No Doubt sings it too) and "Here I am Lord" (which has the coolest bass line I have ever heard). This is a definate must-have. So get it!!! It is very hard to find!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm not a fan of punk but I loved this album, December 5, 2004

This may not be the ideal album for the entire family sitting around the fireplace on Christmas Eve, but it's still a Christmas classic. "My Frst X-mas (as a Woman)" and "Christmas Time for My [...]" are sweetly melodic and and the lyrics are hilarious. "Dance of the Sugarplum Fairies" is a little more hardcore but the theme from The Nutcracker is cleverly woven into the electric guitar insanity. There is something here for people of all sorts of musical tastes, and it makes an excellent offbeat gift for people other than your grandparents.

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST VANDALS ALBUM, November 18, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Oi to the World (Audio CD)
What a great album for the holidays. I always wondered what it would be like to have mt first christmas as a woman. This Vandals album, their first released on their own label(kung Fu records), is probably the best album of theirs(tied with sweatin to the oldies). If you don't have any other vandal albums get this one. it is funny, christmasy, and very catchy. Can't go wrong with this album, and remeber. . . Oi to the punks, and Oi to the skins, and oi to the world and everybody in it

5.0 out of 5 stars Christmas Punk..., May 17, 2005

I think every genre of music with the possible exception of death metal has its christmas albums. The Vandals's Oi to the World! is hardly original, there have been punk Christmas compilations since the late 70s, but this one is one of the better punk takes on Christmas. Each song rings with juvenille humour and sardonic holiday cheer.

Not every song is a Christmas classic, but some that really shine are "Gun for Christmas" and "My First Christmas as a Woman." Those two songs have concepts that carry them through whatever troubles they might have had. Hell, just saying the words "gun for christmas" will get a chuckle out of many people. "Christmastime for My Penis" is an ode to the organ that has kept our specie alive for the past few million years (even the femenists need to thank it a little).

Some of the songs are medioce, "C-H-R-I-S-T-M-A-S" comes to mind right off the bat, but overall, this album is one of the more memborable Christmas albums ever made. OI to the world and everybody wins.

This album is a great punk album, plain and simple. It's a classic for a reason. Check out "Oi To The World" and "My First Christmas As A Woman" especially.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Christmas....I mean...Punk Rock Classic, January 28, 2011

This review is from: Oi to the World (Audio CD)
What can I say? This album has been floating around for years and still never ceases to amaze me. This is a classic album for any fan of Punk Rock or Music in general. The songs are classic Vandals...Biting, sarcasm, ironic, and catchy. For those who say punk rock is a bunch of noise, I say listen to this album to hear that punk rockers know how to play their instruments and can actually create a cohesive vision. I listened to this album every year until it was stolen. I finally re-purchased it and it will again continue to be a yearly tradition at my household.

As for the music....Gun for Christmas...even more appropriate today than when it was originally written. With our media focus on scaring the living death out of us each day, this song really hits home. Grandpa's last Christmas...Who can't relate to this one. For those who are often disapointed we have Thanks for Nothing. Thats right, a bitter song about giving plenty and getting nothing in return. The classic Oi to the World covered by many great bands. This song has become a punk rock anthem. I won't delve into the rest but the album does set the tone for a great Christmas and reminds us that the holidays aren't about getting and giving gifts. Its about more than that. What is is? I haven't figured it out yet. -Chris Diablo, 2011

5.0 out of 5 stars A Laughing Christmas, December 23, 2010

This review is from: Oi To The World (MP3 Download)
I love this version of Dance of the Sugarplum Fairies. I play it throughout the entire year, as it always make me laugh. Can you think of anything more ubiquitous and overdone around the holidays than the Nutcracker Suite? This song is like the sparkling aperitif to more meaty holiday favorites.

A decent addition to any holiday music library for those with a sense of humor. Every song must be taken tongue-in-cheek and should be considered unsafe for work or holiday parties with children present. Not for the easily offended, "Oi to the World" is a fast-paced, sometimes jarring mockery of the Christmas spirit. To their credit, The Vandals have produced something that is not a re-hash of tired holiday carols or a straightforward parody -- it is an in-your-face, cursing and vomiting tirade against Christmas tradition without being preachy.

Fans of The Vandals and other late 80s / early 90s punk will enjoy this immensely. Others probably will not.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tis the Season, January 22, 2008
This review is from: Oi to the World (Audio CD)
Add this to your collection of music. Christmas can not be the same without it. My holiday tradition is to play "Oi to the World" and "National Lampoons Christmas Vacation" every year. The cd is a creative, hilarious work of art...I can see why it is so expensive. I never knew I was harboring a punk collectors item...I just got it in 2001 when it came out! Don't hate me :)
