ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Dr. Johanna BUDWIG, born in 1906, made her mark in the male-dominated world of science as one of the first researchers to conclusively link the role of essential fats to disease prevention and cure.

Studies in pharmacy, chemistry and medicine earned her a doctorate degree (Ph.D.) in physics -and during the 1940's and 50's, she furthered research to detect, isolate and identify fatty substances in human blood.

Dr. Budwig compared the blood analysis of thousands of healthy individuals to those with degenerative diseases such as cancer, diabetes and liver disease. The results were revolutionary.

Dr. Budwigs's test results conclusively showed that the diseased patients were deficient in specific nutritional factors, particularly the essential fatty acid, linoleic acid. These patients were also lacking adequate levels of phosphatide and lipoprotein necessary for good health.

She concluded that sulfur-based proteins, essential fatty acids and phosphatide are absolutely critical to building and maintaining healthy cells.

Dr. Budwig lived well into her ninety's and her tireless dedication and research in the field of nutrition precipitated her nomination for the Nobel Prize seven times over the course of her long and illustrious scientific career.

This book is the companion to her first book. While the first book is really a compilation of her various lectures to peers over a long span of years, this book actually explains in more detail how her diet works and also suggests diets that are nutritious to the point of being adequate for athletes in training. If I had to choose "one" this would be IT. As a cancer victim myself you can read my review of the other book about how well her diet works. Buying this book and following her diet will be the best investment in your own health you will ever make. Buy and read both her books, but especially this one.

For those who are genuinely interested in the quality of their health and are skeptical of the manufactured/processed interference into our diet, this is the book for you.The diet is SIMPLE and DOES WORK. I am proof of that. This book ideally should be read in conjunction with Dr Budwig's book 'Flax oil as a True Aid against Arthritis, Heart Infarction, Cancer and Other Diseases' as it explains the research behind this diet. Dr Budwig's recipes are tasty, easy (in the most part) to prepare and above all GOOD FOR YOU. It has taken nearly 50 years for the mainstream medical/scientific world to 'discover' what Dr Budwig had already perfected and had the documented evidence proving it. Most of the recipes have a 'European flavour' but are easily adaptable to everyone's tastes. Substitutions are usually included ie: low-fat cottage cheese or yoghurt for Quark, but there are a few items that are more difficult to obtain here in Oz, such as Kaki fruit or sea buckthorn. Even if you don't follow the diet religiously for health reasons, the recipes in this book will add a healthy, tasty variety to your eating.

I would highly recommend this book to those who desire to improve their health by incorporating flax seeds and flax oil into the diet. The cookbook gives many ways to include flax oil at every meal and even for dessert. The ice cream recipes using flax oil are absolutely delicious.

I took Cottage and ground flax mixed together for 2 weeks and have noticed a very marked improvement in short term memory. Before, I couldnt remember things for more than a couple of seconds and I was always at a loss for words. BOOM, after the diet, I now have NO PROBLEM recalling things and words in conversation. Going to try adding Cinammon, Almond splinters, Honey and prunes to the mix.

This is a miracle mix !!!!!

I am a health nut and highly recommend Dr Budwig's book on Arthritis, Cancer, etc before obtaining this cookbook. This cookbook is wonderful and I have been following the cottage cheese and flaxseed oil with many other vegetables and fruits. I cut up all my vegetables and keep in a

vacuum seal container ahead of time. This enables me to throw meals, lunches together in no time at all. I am looking forward to trying out her ice cream recipe with the cottage cheese.

I truly believe that the Flax Seed oil is a Fountain of Youth. I am 57 years old and have been using for just a month. My crow's feet between my brows is almost invisible as well as around the corners of my mouth.

I highly recommend the cookbook for anyone wanting to change their diet.

Dr. Joanna Budwig was Germany's foremost expert on fats and oils. Not only did she hold a Ph.D in Biochemistry, but also she held one in Pharmacolgy, and another one in Natural Science, as well as having done studies in nutrition and medicine. Dr. Budwig set up her own clinic in the Black Forest area of Germany and treated many patients who had been given up by their physicians. She used her protocol/combination of low fat quark(a type of cottage cheese) and Flaxseed oil to bring sick people back to health. The third part of this protocol, in terms of nutrition, is the use of one or two tablespoons of freshly ground flaxseed to be eaten withing 15 minutes of grinding for full benefit. Only organic flaxseed oil and organic flaxseeds should be used because many flaxseed products are now genetically modified organisms (GMO), potentially harmful to our DNA. This book contains some very helpful instructions on making home made mayonnaise, Oleo-Lox Fat, and other very important items, like dressings, so needed for good health, but missing in our "food processed world." Included also is a substitute way to make an approximation of her Linomel recipe.

The Oil-Protein Cookbook is written for people in various stages of health, mainly the very ill, the not so ill and for those who want to maintain good health via nutrition. There is a variety of over 500 combination recipes but one can mix what is available locally and what is to one's liking. Of course, if some one is ill, it would be better to follow her recipes to the letter.It is truly a way back to good health.

Omega 3 is not made by our body so it must be imported through the food chain. Dr Budwig was a vegetarian and used Flax oil for the Omega 3 source.

It's a giant secret here but everyone is dying from lack of Omega 3's. We're talking cancer, heart disease,
plus all those maladies that just make your life barely livable such as painful arthritis. The author of this
book was nominated for the Nobel Prize no less than seven times. It was never awarded to her thanks to
drug companies and research labs. Why fix something when you can keep it broken and profit ?!! This book
is a goldmine for those of us who want to keep feeling good instead of slowly deteriorating into useless beings
who cannot care for themselves or anything else...

More About the Author

Dr. Johanna Budwig developed and promoted from 1952 the Budwig Protocol/Budwig Diet, as an anti-cancer diet. The diet is rich in flaxseed oil, mixed with cottage cheese and milk, and meals high in fruits, vegetables, and fiber. The diet also avoided sugar, animal fats, commercial salad oils, meats, butter, and especially margarine, which is rich is hydrogenated fats. Dr. Budwig reported that within 3 months, some patients on this diet had smaller tumors, some had no tumors left, and all felt better.
