This is a cute little picture book that is perfect for reading-aloud. The antics of a pair of sibling pigs will have you and your little one grinning. Benny and his little brother get bored staying inside their house and go out to play with a warning from mom not to play in the mudhole. Guess what? That's precisely where they head to and meet up with their friends. Of course by the end of the day the little piggies will have had lots of fun and even some anxious moments, but all ends well. A delightful book for young ones.

As a children's librarian I have encountered many children's books.
"Oink, Oink, Benny" is one of those I keep coming back to. The book
is funny, and the drawings are worthy on thier own as some of the best
of it's kind for conveying the story. The book is great to read aloud and
children just enjoy it.

A sweet story about Benny and his little brother playing outdoors. The pictures are wonderful. My 3 year old loves it and makes funny references to what he has done together with his younger brother while reading it.

I was outraged when we borrowed this book from the library and I read it to my two small children (6 and 3). I found it to be very inappropriate for a children's book. It starts out with Mother pig telling the children to "stay away from the mudhole". They "goof off for a bit" and "then they head straight for the mudhole". Their friends are there and it says that "some of their friends are really dumb" (also very inappropriate in my opinion; is this really how we want our children to think of others?). They run around the mudhole and then a "mean" kid pushes the baby pig in the mudhole. A girl pig rescues him and holds him on her lap "with his snout against her cheek". Benny is jealous and wants the girl pig to hold him on her lap with his snout against her cheek (also what I feel is inappropriate thinking for a child) so he falls into the mudhole on purpose (willful disobedience). He gets his wish and the girl pig holds him on her lap with his snout against her cheek. Then they leave to go home. On the way home it rains and washes all of the mud off of them. Their Mother thinks they are wet from playing in the rain and never finds out about them playing in the mudhole against her wishes. "The End". What was the point of that story? The pigs disobeyed their mother with no consequences to their actions. What does this say to our children??? Parents have reasons for the boundaries they set for their children and children need to learn that and need to respect that. A real child/baby could drown by falling into a big mudhole or pool and that is a very serious and very real situation which should not be treated lightly. I found this book to be AWFUL and am surprised that it ever was published as a book for children. I wanted to give it no stars but that was not an option so I had to give it one (the lowest score possible).
