to be supplemented daily. One thing my Opthmalogist was insistent about is that before going to bed at night I use a nighttime ointment for added protection. I found the Tears again ointment I purchased from Amazon to be equivalent to any that I have purchased from major drug stores, but at a far lower cost. The web address for this product is Tears Again Eye Ointment, Sterile Lubricant, Nighttime Relief for Dry Eyes, 0.125 oz (3.5 g) (Pack of 6)
UPDATE: After using Tears Again for a little while longer, my eyes once again required drops when I got up during the night. The outside of my eyes were still greasy but my eyeballs were dry. I also agree with a previous poster who indicated the difficulty she/he was having getting the ointment into the eye - the ointment just wraps around the tip of the tube. In order to get the ointment in my eye I ended up putting it on the side of my index finger and then scraping it off using my lower eyelid which is probably not too sanitary.
It is designed for night use because it fogs vision. However, if my eyes
are especially irritated I'll use it in daytime too, and then dilute it
with regular artificial tears. Some of the extra protection will still linger and make eyes more comfortable.
