The sleepy, spa reputation of Ojai (pronounced Oh-hi) belies one of the busier civic schedules of any California community its size. This corner of Ventura County is home of the world-renowned Ojai Music Festival and the century-old Ojai Tennis Tournament, as well as a concentration of top-quality boarding schools. It's a meeting and greeting place known for its painters, sculptors, photographers, musicians, and filmmakers. The valley also welcomed the New Age when it was still very new as many of the area's denizens are committed to the well-being of body, mind, and soul and has been favored through the years by such resident spiritual leaders as the philosopher Krishnamurti.

About the Author
Author Richard Hoye has been the Ojai Valley Museum's principal researcher since 1997. Coauthor Jane McClenahan has been its executive director since 2002. Coauthor Tom Moore pored through the museum's large photographic collection to help arrange this tour through the valley's historic past. The Ojai Valley Museum exhibits history and natural history, and features a Chumash interpretive garden, local and regional art, and traveling exhibits.

I was blessed to grow up in the beautiful Ojai Valley. My great grandparents owned and operated the newspaper and had shops in the Arcade.
This series of books detailing the history of California cities and neighborhoods is a goldmine of information for people interested in geneaology as well as local history. I teach high school history and use these books to enrich the textbook curriculum subscribed by the State.
