This CD brings me memories of when I was a young girl. I loved this artist and all of his songs filled me with happiness and always have made me dance! This CD has great music by an excellent artist, Juan Luis Guerra. 3.0 out of 5 stars Juna Luis Guerra's early years
Sometimes you get a CD because you have heard one song and end up pleasantly surprised with the rest of the disc. Such was the case with this disc by JLG and his interpretation of the often recorded "Ojala Que Llueva Cafe." What distinguises the JLG version is the uptempo quasi-merengue beat and the chorus (sounds like children in parts) by 4:40. This disc...

This CD has great music by an excellent artist, Juan Luis Guerra. He has done many hit songs including "ojala que llueva cafe" (which is in this CD.)This CD has a lot of merengue and bachata and are very enjoyable and the songs have a very deep sentimental meaning. Other cds you will enjoy if you like this one is "Bachata Rosa" which is also by the same artist.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comida que cae del cielo..., June 22, 2000
This review is from: Ojala Que Llueva Cafe (Audio CD)
La primera vez que escuché Ojalá que llueva café estaba lloviendo en el techo de zinc de mi casita santiaguera. Fue maravilloso. Este es el mejor autor dominicano y uno de sus músicos más creativos. Este su mejor disco.

5.0 out of 5 stars A masterpiece!!, November 11, 2000

Juan Luis Guerra is simply brilliant. This album brings back some of the best memories from my high school/college years in Venezuela. These songs were so popular that nowadays are considered standard hits. They are guaranteed to make you dance and sing, no matter how hard you try to stand still!!

This disc finds JLG in his formative years as he stepped into the lead role of the group he was part of known as 4:40. This is a collection of merengue songs that have a pop feel to them. "La Gallera" is a merengue number that is gospel tinged for a soulful bit of Caribbean groove. "Woman Del Callo" is one of the mainstays of the JLG repertoire that features JLG singing in English and Spanish as the feeling suits him. He shifts languages effortlessly as the frenzied beat takes you away. "Reina Mia" is quite interesting as the background vocals of the chorus hum in a sort of African style made popular to American audiences by Paul Simon's "Rhythm of The Saints." "On Angel Para Una Tambora" JLG returns to his roots in 4:40 and becomes one voice as part of the chorus. For fans of JLG this is a nice departure disc that reveals his talents as a lead artist. A solid effort by by one of merengue's original artists to expose the intoxicating rhythms worldwide. There are no liner notes and not even music credits! With it's frenetic yet rhythmic beat the running time of 32:10 goes by even faster!

They are undoubtedly one of the best hispanic/latin groups. A real must have for the latino music enthusiast. Can't help but move to the music!

4.0 out of 5 stars Pop merengue with great hooks, August 23, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Ojala Que Llueva Cafe (Audio CD)
Guerra and 440 really kick it on this album-maybe their best, and one of the best of latter day merengue. It integrates some pop traits, so it may not be for purists, but the music is energetic and compelling-just try to sit/stand still! You may even find yourself singing along-whether or not you speak Spanish.

too bad there are no lyrics with it... there is actually nothing on the cover except a picture of Juan Luis Guerra, his name and the name of the album. Not a reason to dock this CD... but I guess lyrics would have been nice.

I;ve bought this CD twice (kids took the first copy). Guerra's music is upbeat and awakens the 'latin' in everyone. I must have for any collector.

5.0 out of 5 stars EL DESPEGUE AL EXITO MUNDIAL, May 16, 2008
This review is from: Ojala Que Llueva Cafe (Audio CD)
