4.0 out of 5 stars great grooves
Talvin Singh is a master at his craft, and it's evident on O.K. Elegant tabla rhythms mix superbly with electronic music to create a sublime ambient sound from the Asian underground. If you like ambient music, or Eastern-influenced electronica, you won't be sorry you bought this album.

3.0 out of 5 stars good aural wallpaper
OK is a really nice mix of drum 'n' bass, techno, jazz, spoken word, and traditional Indian sounds. I like having it on while working, driving, messing about online, or whatnot; It's upbeat, and keeps the intuitive/artistic part of my brain occupied, but it's not at all intrusive. Fun to listen to.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent fusion of Indian music with western beats, June 8, 2002
By
This review is from: Ok (Audio CD)
I have been meaning to check out Talvin Singh's music for some time now and I finally got the opportunity to when I found a copy of "O.K" in the used cd bins at my local record store today. I have always been fascinated with the idea of blending two completely different musical genres together, and especially the idea of world music (in this case, Indian music) with electronic beats (drum & bass). But if you really want to think about it, why wouldn't Indian and drum & bass music go good together? I was completely confounded by the gorgeous aural soundscapes of "O.K". The fusion of traditional Indian music with the modern sounds of drum & bass and ambient music is a relatively new to me so for me this is a complete departure from a lot of electronica music that I listen to. I loved listening to the traditional Indian instruments mixed together with the skitterish beats of drum & bass. The sonic impact of that combination had quite an impact on me. I was particularly enthralled with the closing track "Vikram the Vampire". The vocals at the end sent chills down my spine. The opening track "Traveller" is simply awesome. It immediately sends the listener on a spiritual journey as he or she listens to "O.K". After hearing "O.K", I think the future of electronica music should continue exploring its traditional roots in music while fusing them with modern electronic beats. "O.K" just proved to me that the combination works.

5.0 out of 5 stars Marvellous, May 5, 2003
This review is from: Ok (Audio CD)
This is beyond any doubt a very strange album. Since I'm not really into drum'n'bass (with the exception of some rather old Aquasky stuff), it was kind of a risk to buy it. Anyhow, I'm really glad I did so. It contains a magical blend of Indian and electronic music, Singh balances on the thin border between earth and space. The sound of the asian instruments is incredible, since Talvin Singh is a professional tabla-player, the technical quality is far beyond average.
I like it. A lot. The most bizarre thing is that I keep on doing so, no matter how much I listen to it.
Without any doubt a marvellous creation... and you shouldn't doubt a second about buying it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Improves dramatically with each listen!, October 8, 1999

I was looking for "exotic" electronica, having enjoyed other groups like Joi and Afro Celt Sound System. Initally I was somewhat dissapointed with the album--I was expecting more 4/4 beats and straight dance music. However, when I listed to the album a second time I was hooked. "OK" creates a musical soundscape both otherworldly and mind-stretching, yet still accessible. It won't make you break out the flashing dance lights, but it will make you think--and make you smile!

I'm usually not a fan of elctronica, techno, what ever you want to call it--but this CD offers some great music--thru live instrumentation, samples, and style. Highly recommended over the Anoka CD. great mix of eastern and western styles of music.

5.0 out of 5 stars More than just OK!, July 7, 2002

OK is more than just OK. I am a big fan of Indian culture and music as well as techno-electronic music. This album by Talvin Singh combines both of these elements into one bringing a unique blend of immaginative, bizzarre, and beautiful music. This is the perfect album to get a taste of original instrumentation that is spiritually inspiring. This album allows your mind and spirit to runaway into the depths of life and the dark corners of the world that are left to be revealed. OK is soothing to listen to and let yourself flow with the music. All the tracks are good and the track Traveller is the perfect introduction to this enigmatic piece of work. Butterfly is a beautiful track that allows you to enjoy the beauty of classic Indian sounds.
Sutrix and Disser/Point.Mento.B are other definite highlights that cling to you as you experience this musical journey.

5.0 out of 5 stars Seductive World Trip, January 21, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Ok (Audio CD)
Some of this album is a little self-indulgent but it's forgivable considering the quality. Very rich in sound and some kicking beats, this album entwines techno with eastern music and chants for a cerebral trance experience. Singh's tabla artistry is fantastic. I recommend this album to anyone into ethno-techno, world music, and groups like Loop Guru.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not quite dance music but the music flows, December 13, 1998

I at first thought his latest album was going to be more dance music but I was quite surprised after listening to track samples. Compared to Singh's previous CD Anokha, OK is less dance or techno but the music is fluid and soothing. I liked the tracks I listened to and I think Talvin Singh does a good job of combining classical Indian music w/ Western beats and sounds. What you have to remember is that Anokha is compilation of works done by DJs and mixmasters and OK is totally Singh's work. Sure the music from his new CD may not be Bhangra, but the music still has the beats and rhythm that makes you drawn to the music. So what if it's not Bhangra, there's too much of that lately.

masterful, visionary, tantric fusions of sound to energize and delight.

A nice complement to the darker works of the band, Male or Female.

I admit it, I was'nt expecting much, but I got much more than I expected when I listened to "OK". This is a very well-rounded CD, not too thumpy-bumpy and not too soft. It also has very well polished and produced sound.

I recommend this CD to anyone who wants to hear something different but very pleasant .
