5.0 out of 5 stars Spizer delivers suspense..., September 5, 2000

I'm not giving away the ending...let me just say I'm surprised I didn't see it coming. All the same, it DID surprise me. I appareciate an author who keeps you on your toes, and I appreciate this author already because I have the chance to know her. Excellent work and insight into how P.I.s (and criminals) think. Strong female lead and secondary characters that come alive, from the heroine's witty gay P.I. partner to a stripper with a heart of gold.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Thought "Cop" Was Good..., August 24, 2000

This review is from: I'm Okay, You're Dead (Hardcover)
Amazingly fun and fast read, very thoughtful and well-researched facts with believable plot twists, and the characters, well, they speak for themselves! The ending packed a big, unexpected surprise. I had a "major" cold chill up my spine in the alley when the shot rang out--I felt like I was there. I can still feel the rain-soaked clothing. And of course the evil plastic surgeon... --ah, the plot thickens! Great read, great book, more please...

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Read, June 17, 2008

I really loved this story. It is full of quirky characters, humor, and a plot that just keeps moving. Also, I liked the setting in and around Los Angeles. Another plus was the short chapters. It made it an easy read and I could read it during commercials.

My only problem with this book is the editing. The editing didn't live up to the great story and whoever did it, did a disservice to Ms. Spizer. However, it is such a minor quibble, I can't even knock the rating down to four stars. Besides, many people would not pick up on the errors. As I writer, I just happen to be in extreme edit mode, no matter what I read!

Don't let my comments on the editing dissuade you from reading this story. It is an outstanding murder mystery and I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars FAST & FUN, May 1, 2008
This review is from: I'm Okay, You're Dead (Hardcover)
Just discovered "I'm Okay, You're Dead" and couldn't put it down. It's a fast, fun read. Joyce has created a world of realistic characters with an interesting mystery plot. She draws from her many years in law enforcement as a PI and police consultant to tell a terrific story without slowing the reader down with a lot of technical firearm and forensic talk found in most "police procedurals."

Joyce Spizer is fast becoming my favourite author, and I'm Okay, You're Dead is her best so far. I ended up so involved with all the characters that I couldn't put it down. A real page-turner. I look forward to Ms. Spizer's next book with great anticipation.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'M OKAY, YOU'RE DEAD, September 17, 2000

Overall, my interest is not in mystery thrillers, but I read Spizer's first book with tremendous enjoyment. (THE COP WAS WHITE AS SNOW) I could hardly wait for her second book to come out! Now I have read this newest accomplishment, and truthfully I wish the 3rd were in my hands now. Without a doubt, I am a fan of Joyce Spizer for her writing skill, the plausibility of what she writes about, her lead character, "Mel", and keeping women in a position of beauty and intelligence as well, which she herself is. Wonderful reading!!!
