NOT for Mac Users, yet,
By Ikayakcanada "KayakCanada" (Sacramento, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Okidata 62431004 C3600n Digital Color Printer (Office Product)
If you are a Mac user, and are using the latest OS (snow leopard), Okidata products have been slow to upgrade their drivers. Just checked their website, and still no fully operational drivers for their products after the snow leopard release 4 months ago. They have some rather complex work-arounds available, if you want to spend the time to utilize them. Otherwise, wait until their drivers catch up, before you buy their products.

This review is from: Okidata 62431004 C3600n Digital Color Printer (Office Product)
I debated for about a year which color laser printer to buy. My 14 year old monochrome laser printer wasn't doing so well and I'd been through 2 Epson color inkjet printers that would work pretty well for a while but have the usual problems with clogged nozzles every time I went to print after leaving it off for a few weeks.
I passed up models by Dell and Samsung (the samsung had built in wireless printing, which I wish the Oki had). I picked the C3600n because of the bigger memory, built in fonts, and reputation of the brand for good print quality. The instructions for unpacking and initial set up (flipping locking levers, removing various shipping protection devices, etc.) were of the pictograph rather than written variety. That was the only slow part. They should have included a big warning about exposing the drums to light, and explained what the black plastic bags were for. If you don't screw up while unpacking and physically setting it up, then everything else is easy. I have it connected to my wireless router with the ethernet cable. Installing the software on the iMac was easy. The software applications are dorky but function well. First print from the mac was very good, with the exception of some smudges. However, they only appeared on the very first page I printed, and I'm sure they were the result of light leakage or touching something I should not have touched. I printed from a Acer Aspire One netbook through my wireless connection to my router without any problem. Crisp black text and good looking photos. No complaints on the print quality, which I thought was exceptional. Minor gripes: I think it uses more power in standby than some other printers. But it does go into some power saving mode, just not frugal enough. A bit noisy during printing, but since I don't make a lot of prints, no problem for me. Wish list: wish it had wireless connection wish it was more energy saving in standby wish the set up instructions had written explanations to accompany the drawings wish the drawings made some sense (they were tidy but not very understandable). Unknown: I don't know how long the original toner will last before I need to replace it. Supposed to be 1000 pages at 4% coverage or something to that effect, but in real life I don't know. I'm happy with it so far.

I have a multi computer environment .......PC, Mac, Linux and different flavors. Easy network setup and the quality is fine for everything I need. The better the paper the better the quality. However, and in general, color laser printers are not the best at photo printing. Inkjets are better suited for that job.
