I used to work in a bookstore that sold some music. This was one of our best selling cds that we ever carried. Granted I played it quite frequently. I have personally worn out 3 cassettes & 1 cd; I'm on my 2nd cd. It is wonderful for quite solitary times. It always brings me peace. I love listening to it for sleeping, hot soaky bathes & around the campfire. I don't no a single person who hasn't liked though they might not have LOVED it as much as I have. You can't go wrong with this cd.

I remember seeing this album on vinyl many years ago in a little folk record shop and just by the cover which includes a Harp, a mountain dulcimer, a hammered dulcimer, a mandocello, a cello, a guitar a violin and some woodwinds and percussion, I just had to check it out. I was already familiar with Joe Weed who plays fiddle, guitar and mandocello on this along with the magical harp of Kim Robertson. At the center is Neal Hellman's mountain dulcimer playing music that is younger than any folk song but sounds like it is as old as the hills. Just first rate playing on this, tune after tune.I hadn't really listened to it in a while , when I was jamming with a friend and he started playing "Robertson's Unreal" from this record, I couldn't believe he had heard October County and he said his father used to listen to it , so I had to run out and was glad to find it on MP3 at Amazon, A treasure, highly recommended to acoustic music fans of all ages.

Neal Hellman, of the highly talented group of Northern California musicians, the Gourd group, specializes in instrumental versions of traditional and modern Celtic airs. This includes some of the loveliest offerings from this genre, including an unforgettable version of Turlogh O'carolan's best piece, "Sheebag Sheemore." I've played my copy to pieces. A musical treat.

Autumn In The Valley was one of my all time, favorite cassettes. Oktober Country is quickly becoming a new, all time favorite.

I bought is recording back in the '80's on cassette. So now I wanted it on cd format. It is great original acoustic music, played on many types of instruments from hammer and lap dulcimers to harp and guitar. If you like acoustic music I highly recommend this disc.
