Looks and feels just like the information states. But the handle is pressed together and falls apart. Not a good salmon reel.

One of my favorite spinning reels acted up during an evening of fishing and all efforts to repair it failed. I needed a new reel and I needed it within the week. By accident I found the Okuma AV-30a here at Amazon. I had never heard of Okuma but the specifications and the price tempted me to try the reel.

The reel arrived within 5 days, just in time for another trip to the old fishing hole. The reel looked good and was quickly installed. Casting was a breeze and the retrieve smooth. This reel has features normally found in reels that cost twice as much. This reel is a bargain.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Reel!, October 25, 2009
I own the AV55A and it's hands down the best reel I've ever owned. I bought it because it has the hydro block seal which prevents salt water from getting to the inside of the reel. I use this reel in both salt and fresh down here in Orlando, and it works perfectly every time. This is also the SMOOTHEST reeling reel you'll ever find. With a total of 7 bearings in it you're definitely not frustrated with the reel when landing the fish. Highly recommend this. I am going to buy 4 more so I can have rod/reel setups for my friends when they come with me.

5.0 out of 5 stars smooth as silk, May 4, 2010

This reel is well made and has a retrieve that is effortless. It has performed flawlessly for my inshore and freshwater fishing needs. The reel comes with an additional spool for quick changes requiring different line. For the money it is an excellent deal and is, hands down, the best reel I own.

5.0 out of 5 stars A big fan of Okuma's Avenger reels, October 1, 2011

I finally decided to buy some decent reels this year, and have purchased 2 of these, one for an Ugly Stik Lite, and the other for a St. Croix Triumph. These reels are great. If you use the graphite spool, they're so amazingly light on the rod. The retrieve is smooth, as well as the drag. I don't think that you can find a better reel in this price range (and FYI, Amazon seems to have the best prices anywhere on the Avengers). I would recommend these reels to anyone who wants a good reel but doesn't want to spend big bucks.

Although I have not had the reel out for a true test, it appears to be a smooth and well-constructed item. The line capacity is a bit more than I had anticipated, but hopefully I will come across a fish big enough to render the capacity useful.

Bought this to put on a nice pole I had that just needed a reel. It looks awesome but I think I'm doing something wrong because I had a tangled mess of fishing line the first time I used it. Other than that, highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Avenger 25 size, December 21, 2011
This review is from: Okuma Avenger "A"Series Graphite Spining Reel (Sports)
I own this reel in the 25 size and I believe they no longer offer this particular model in this size. I am pleased with it, especially that size. It holds plenty of line without being large or heavy. Function is good in all respects. It is not as butter smooth as a 150 dollar reel, but it is pretty smooth operating and the drags on Okuma reels are always topnotch for their price range. The drag is also sealed. At this price point they are hard to beat. I have no complaints about mine, but I have not used it long enough to report on it's longivity. Generally longivity has more to do with proper maintenance than price, at least up to a point. If you want to be confident about a reel lasting for decades of use you'll have to fork out the money for one with premium German or Japanese bearings as a starting point.

5.0 out of 5 stars great fishing reel for the price., December 15, 2011

I received my Okuma AV-65A saltwater reel today, and put 20LB fishing line on it. I took it for a test run the reel is amazing very easy to cast and retrieve. The money I spent for this reel was well worth it, it's very well constructed and sturdy. I would recommend this reel to all my fishing buddies.

5.0 out of 5 stars Avenger Series reels- Get them!, October 17, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Okuma Avenger "A"Series Graphite Spining Reel (Sports)
We do a lot of saltwater fishing (and freshwater) so we need a reel that can handle the abuse of having 100-200 yards of string being ripped off it when the fish hits. We've gone through plenty of reels that just couldn't take it too many times before they gave out on us. With the Okuma series we've had the 80a, 65a, 40a, and 50 baitfeeder reels for over a year now and they have taken everything that these 6 and 7 foot sharks that we've been catching can give them. These reels have never even thought about messing up and they are still reeling just as smooth as ever.

If you are not currently using these reels you need to try them out. They are hands down the best reel you can find for your money. I'm sure you can spend $100's of dollars and get the really high end stuff but there is nothing else at this price point that can compare to the durability and dependability of these reels. We've had several of our Shakespeare, Daiwa, Abu Garcia and Shimano reels fail on us lately and we've replaced each one with the Okuma Avenger series. Pretty soon everything we have going into the water will be one of these reels.

If I ever have an issue with these reels I'll update my post. Until then, happy fishing!
