Product Description

The fisheries of the Northeast and Northwest have been in turmout to say the least. However the future looks bright. The lake trout have come back strong in the last few years and the Northwest rivers are seeing the strongest runs of salmon and steelhead in recent history. With input from some of the top fishermen on these waters we developed the Celilo series. Throwing modesty out the window we nailed these actions and developed the perfect salmon, trout and bottom bouncing graphite rods. Although beautiful, you don't have to take out that second mortgage to load the boat with them.

Great crappie rod and panfish rod.

The tip of the pole is very sensitive, you can really feel trout nibble or strikes of a lure.

A great rod for trout, even the larger ones. Fishing with 3 lb test green Maxima line on Stradic 2500fh reel, it turns the fish quickly. I prefer them to the Daiwa graphite rods I've had.

OCT 2011 - OPENING DAY for 2011/2012 trout season at Pyramid Lake Nevada: Hundreds of fisherman hit the lake for the opening day, many fish were caught from boats, few fish from shore, but 'this guy' rocked it!

I went out with an 8'6" medium Okuma Celio, outfitted with a Shimano Sahara 2500 FD reel. The combination was powerful. Guys on either side of me each caught zero to one fish all day. I caught over fifteen! Lucky? I don't think so. The difference was the spinning rod & reel. Here's what I noticed:

1) Casting - I was flipping the same weight lures, and sending them at least 50% further than the other guys I was fishing with. The advantage for me was getting my lures into the deep water of the lake. The other guys were all coming up several yards short of the drop off where the big fish lurk this early in the season. When my lure would move from the deep water to the upper ledge, I constantly had big followers chasing my lure in.

2) Touch and feel - The light touch of the Ouma Celilo tip gives you quick evidence when you get a light hit from a big trout. If I felt a bump, I'd set the hook and the fight was on! No guessing about a hit - I had so much feel through the pole to the lure - I was always confident that I was taking advantage of every hit.

3) Fish on! Great pole for a tough fight. I had several fish on that were in the range of 4-6 lbs. The pole felt great and made the fight feel awesome. I was able to take my time and bring the fish in without rushing.

Yesterday I saw first hand how much difference owning a great pole & reel can make in trout fishing. Twice in the afternoon - I went on streaks. Three casts in a row - three fish caught in a row, then a little later four casts - four catches.

Amazing for the money. I use it for the blue gill, crappie, and largemouth in the pond. Amazing results. You can feel everything your lure is doing. Awesome!

Great looking rod. It seems thin but it gets the job done. Took it out and you can feel everything . I love this pole. I use it for trout fishing and I would again.

I just recently purchased a second rod in a different size because I loved the first one so much. You can feel all the action from any lure you put on your line. Seems very well made and it is my favorite rod

The Okuma Celilo is hands down the best pole dollar for dollar. I purchased the 6'6'' ultralight 2 piece here on amazon and love every bit of it. The color is a dark reddish brown, that shines beautifully in the sunlight. If you want to know exact color look at the Pflueger president XT reel, It is an exact match. I suggest pairing that reel with the rod. The tip of the pole is very sensitive, you can really feel trout nibble or strikes of a lure. Cork handles are very comfortable and durable as well. Buy this pole, do not waste money on a high dollar pole that will perform just the same. Backed by a 1 year warranty.

I have 3 of these rods. A 6', 6.5', and 4.5'. My sole use is trout fishing in streams. The longer rods perform admirably and I have used the 6' frequently, usually with 6lb test line and a 1/6 ounce Mepps spinner. The workmanship, components, and finish are excellent. They have enough flexibility and strength to allow precision casting with enough power to play fish. They are a good value. My one quibble is that the smaller guides should have more stand off from the rod. Four and a half stars.
However, I find the 4.5' rod to be wholly unacceptable for ultralight (or even light) fishing in streams. It is simply too stiff to cast a small lure with finesse. Flip casts are impossible. I really can not envision a good use for it (casting 1/2 ounce lures on a lake?). It is extremely misleading to label it ultralight. I tried it once and decided to use it for parts. The process of removing the guides etc. confirmed that it is indeed very well made. One star.
One other note. The Amazon picture shows a spin-casting handle not spinning. It is inaccurate. These are indeed, spinning rods.
