4.0 out of 5 stars good for spring kings
This reel has a smooth drag and a line capacity of better than 400 yds of 20 lb test mono. It was described as "small" on the website. I usually go with a Penn 209 for salmon in Washington State. This reel is an excellent alternative at a nice price. I took a chance on it and am pleased with it's solid construction and apparent high quality. Not junk. Model # is CLX-450L

for the money it's not too bad. However it's not all brass -like the picture-its mostly hard platic, not metal. It works well for trolling or bigfish.

I've always been a fan of Okuma reels. You get a much better value to performance out of them than any others. I purchased 2 of these (the ones labeled "Small") for shark fishing off the Florida panhandle's beaches (kayaking the baits out...not casting). I landed a 5 foot blacktip shark on my first night in under 20 minutes with this reel spooled with 100lb braid. Overall is an excellent reel.

Well worth the money, Usually I buy the penn version but went with this one and it's well worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great buy., December 12, 2011

Received it within the time advertised. Filled it with 20 pound test line, and took it fishing the day after.
The reel is a bit larger than I expected. The large black drum are running in my area, and this reel will do the job. It's a bit smaller than the Penn 209 that I usually use on these fish, but it's a lot lighter and I can hold it longer.

This reel is bigger than I thought it was. For the price I was unsure of the size. I would compare it to the size of a TLD 15 from Shimano. It cast great, holds a lot of line, nothing but good to say about this reel. excellent value!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good reel Great price., January 24, 2012

Nice light in weight. Nice amount of line. Especially if you use braided line. Has nice drag to it. Caught a 3 foot blacktip shark, took a nice chunk of line off but after a few minutes of fighting smooth crank.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome reel, January 9, 2012

If the Okuma reel works any where as good as it looks and feels, I expect to have years of great service and fun with it. The action is smooth and quiet, got the feel of it filling the reel with line the other day. I love the level wind feature. It's the first salt water reel I have owned with it and I love the way it took the line. I can't wait to use it this summer!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Reels, December 29, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
My husband purchased more of these reels as he was pleased with the set he had. He used them in a fishing tournament on the Chesapeake Bay in November (no, he didn't win!) and was extremely happy, as usual. They are just as described and have great performance. The quality of the reels (some several years old) are great, especially with routine use in the salt water of the bay. He does rinse all of his reels and rods after fishing, so that helps keep them in good working order. He normally runs 30 lb test line with a poor man's bimini and a snap swivel to make a double leader on the terminal end for trolling stripers. We both would definitely recommend these reels.
