This review is from: Okuma Fishing TU-80 Tundra 8-Foot 2-Piece Surf/Pier Spinning Rod (Large, White/Blue) (Sports)
I ordered this rod to replace a rod that the real seat broke. Although this rod is labeled as a Surf Rod in reality it isnt. The rod is rated for 1 1/2 oz Max i thought perhaps the manuf under rated and took a chance. However the rod is whippy and its rating is about right. In other words dont try and chunk 5oz plus with this it doesnt have the muscle for it. The first section of the rod is built heavy like a surf rod but some reason the top section is really soft. I hate stiff rods and prefer a softer rod however this may be soft and to whippy even for me. Some rods have fast tips but have reserve power in the mid section. This rod has a fast soft tip and little reserve power should you encounter a big fish. This been a cheap rod you wont find quality guides on it and it has a generic real seat component although it appears to be a decent one. More time will tell as i use the rod. This rod is possibly better suited for freshwater possibly chasing chanel cats and stripers. I would be worried if I hooked in to a 30lb + Striper (catfish)as the rod is to soft and has little backbone. The real seats are cushioned which is a good thing sometime in cheaper rods they leave out that important .35 cent piece. Overall the quality of the rod is ok for the price. I guess you probably could throw some 2 oz lures with it and possibly use it to chunk 3 oz and a piece of bait for freshwater. However 3 oz might be the max you could use and might be pushing it.
