Of possible interest to both researchers and fans, this book provides access to data collected from disparate sources, including the first published listing of Internet resources. The information is divided into three parts, each arranged alphabetically, and covers his music, film, radio and television appearances, and his concerts and humanitarian contributions. A bibliography designed to provide information on locating additional resources is also included. The alphabetical arrangements of song entries includes information on the songs, record labels, arrangers and recording dates. Three appendices at the end of the volume provide additional information about the recordings. The encyclopaedia concludes with the details of awards Sinatra has received.

Compiled by American studies professor Mustazza (a coeditor of The Frank Sinatra Reader, LJ 11/15/95), this thorough chronicle of Sinatra's multifaceted career will be a treasure trove for cultural studies researchers and a popular reference for fans. The well-organized work opens with more than 150 pages offering recording history for hundreds of songs?lyricists, arrangers, release dates, and circumstances of recording are included, though little analysis or critique appears. Shorter sections with detailed factual information on his albums, films, and radio and television work follow; there is even an annotated list of two-dozen Sinatra-related web sites. Though not annotated, the 20-page "selected bibliography" is especially useful. Sinatra's recent death spawned numerous quickie tribute books, but this comprehensive reference is, like the Chairman of the Board himself, of enduring value. This is a great encyclopedia for any Sinatra fan. It is a well-organized compilation of every song and album that Sinatra ever recorded. It also provides interesting tidbits about the recording sessions, arrangers, and the songs. In addition, the book chronicles his movies, television appearances, and numerous awards. As a Sinatra fanatic, I frequently use the book to reference back to songs, albums, and or movies that I have recently experienced.

When I got this book I think I was disappointed, dry text, not very good quality of the pictures. But then I realized the colossal worth of this encyclopedia. Leonard Mustazza'd did a tremendous effort to collect information about the Sinatra's work. The most important information is about the recordings in the studio, with dates, stories of songs, a lot of technical data. Without this encyclopedia it is impossible to understand the enormous contribution of the great singer made in show business, the music industry. I constantly use this book as information guide. I belive it's one of the most important books on the Sinatra work that should have every his fan.
