About the Author

Ursula’s passion for reading led her to start writing down story ideas that she thought would make a great book. This habit led her to write her first novel, Old Acquaintances. Mystery, suspense and intrigue have always been her book style of choice and so it was only natural she follow the same path in her writing. She credits the Lord for allowing her to pursue her dreams of writing and for her supportive family. Ursula lives with her husband and two children in the Missouri Ozarks. --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

More About the Author

I am a mother of two wonderful children, whom I adore. I have been married for 15 years to my best friend. I've lived in the Missouri Ozarks for the last 28 years of my life.
I have always been an avid reader, and mysteries are my favorite. One day I sat down to write an idea down for a story I had rattling around in my head. From that, the story of Old Acquaintances was born. I have fallen in love with the characters and the story line.
Having been raised as an Air Force brat, the characters in books became constant friends that went everywhere I went. To this day I still think fondly of Nancy Drew, Encyclopedia Brown and many other characters that shared my childhood with me! What a great way to honor those friends, then to introduce the world to some great new characters they can get to know and love!

I really enjoyed reading this first book by Ursula Gorman. Many books take two or three chapters to get you caught up in the story, but not this one. The story grabs your attention in the first few pages and keeps it until the very last. The characters are interesting and well written. Very believable. I am looking forward to Mrs. Gorman's next book.

Gorman has a firm grasp on murder mystery and tells a captivating story in Old Acquaintances. Her characters are believable and intriguing. Everyone is a suspect and everyone is at risk. She kept me guessing until it was obvious who "done" it. I turned page after page without putting the book down. Excellent job and I'm looking forward to Gorman's next book!

"Old Acquaintances" by Author Ursula Gorman is captivating, a great plot that kept me reading, sitting on the edge with a fantastic novel! This author amazed me with her characters and plot lines, an exquisite diamond of a book - filled with gems of passion and romance, decorated with mystery, intrigue, adventure, and suspense. Captured in its beauty - engaged in the thrill and excitement wondering what would happen next, as if watching an intense movie - she brought the characters to life. This book was well-written, and a fast and easy-read. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat and take you on an adventurous ride! This diamond of a book definitely needs to be noticed!

Murder, mystery, intrigue and romance all weaved into this captivating book by Ursula Gorman. The characters are vivid and believable from the first to the last. It is so refreshing to read a mystery novel where a strong, competent, hard-working woman is the main character. The romantic twist that Ursula added to this murder mystery was exciting. A must read for all mystery/romance readers!
Great book!

Review by Stephanie: Mystery and suspense set your skin on fire in Gorman's debut, Old Acquaintances. The drama presented towards Rissa is frightening because of how far the criminal goes to ruin her life, and also because of how realistic the situation is.

Innocent citizens are brutally murdered, and the sequence seems random, until one link is discovered, that connects them all: Rissa. The victims are all somehow related to her, whether they be childhood friends, neighbors, or people in her daily life (such as her hairdresser); all old acquaintances.

Somehow, Rissa knows these slayings are happening because of her. Even worse, she knows this serial killer is targeting her specifically for a reason. But what reason could that be? She doesn't have any enemies that she knows of.

Old Acquaintances is thrillingly fast-paced and unexpectedly charming. The romance could have been left out, however. I mean, I enjoy a starry-eyed romance every now and then, but it's plain annoying when squeezed in with the suspense of the crime. It's also one of the impractical aspects of this short novel. Stone, the handsome detective, and Rissa fall in love during the case, where Stone is the active detective, and Rissa is the protected victim and witness; their relationship seems highly unprofessional and unlikely. Rissa also has the chaste "no sex until marriage", and claims to be in love with Stone as soon as the case is over. Like I said, I love romance, but even to me, that sort of "love" is a bit farfetched.

Gorman's style is effortless; the story moves quickly and the plot is laid out step by step, making it a little predictable.
